If you had a budget to make a AAA game, what would that be?

I would make a 3rd person action RPG game a-la Mass Effect, set in Warhammer 40000 universe. You play a young inquisitor, gather a team, solve some cases a la genestealer cults, heretical plots etc.
Strictly 18+ with intense violence, speciesism and Slaaneshi cults.

either a new manhunt game or a reboot/ next installment of the legacy of kain series

Open-world Samurai action game, Red Dead style. Spend a lot on the graphics, get a nice combat engine, good "revenge on the lord who killed my family" storyline.

Although in practice it'd probably be more like the crew rape from Event Horizon

There is something in Dugneon Keeper style on Steam, forgot what it was called, did you tried this?

There are two Dungeon keeper style routes you could go on Steam. The Dungeons series (Dungeons 3 is the latest) and War for the Overworld

I played War of the Overworld and it was ok. It's well rated on Steam along with Dungeons 3

Yeah, I'm pretty curious about that one, but it seems very story driven. I'd want people to get lost in the side stuff, get some nice Witcher style stories in, some factions you can convince to help you. Maybe even a Nemesis s
System light for enemy generals and local warlords. Ghost seems very worth getting excited about though.

The year is 3500.

After WW7, modern technology has been destroyed forever, people live with middle ages technology, and wars are fought with swords and spears The setting is part cyberpunk, part medieval, part middle eastern. Islam rules the world. The Ottoman Caliphate re-emerged and the story takes place in it.

You are Saif, part of Caliph Muhammed XXV's elite hit squad. For the first part of the game, you carry out assassinations for the Caliph. Genre is hack and slash / action adventure. Gameplay emphasizes realistic swordplay, with focus on parrying and blocking, and one hit kills. You're hit once, you're dead, and you defeat your enemies with one or two strokes of the sword.

Game is cutscene heavy.

As you carry more assassinations, you discover that who you are murdering are luminaries that have relics belonging to the past ages. At some point you discover that your entire social construct is a lie and that there is no Allah.

You set out to exact vengeance upon the Caliph. You start by murdering your own hit squad. They're seven elite warriors, and each boss battle is preceded and followed by a two hour cutscene, MGS-style.

You murder the Caliph and world plunges into chaos. As you ride off into the sunset, you wonder if it was all worth it. After all, people were living in security and wealth under Caliph Muhammed.

Destiny/WoW hybrid

Pretty much destiny but with a real open world + planets on a massive scale.

A MCU game like X-men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance but in 3rd person view with graphics like God of War (PS4).
Would include split screen and drop-in drop-out with friends online. Can go on missions on other worlds and fight and meet all villains.
Can eventually add DLC to include the Negative Zone and multiverse stuff .

and half the budget would go to RDJ to do voice work for Ironman, hahahaha

3rd/1st person 1930's Mafia open world game, with an open and interactive world, with the ability to mess around with objects like Skyrim, the forced takeovers and roughing up of stores like The Godfather Game, the realism of Mafia 1, the assassins coming after you randomly like Skyrim and as many weapons as State of Decay 1, with realistic bullet damage and gore. And finally with indepth control of illegal dealings, including hits, and illegal businesses.

Easy. Midevil GTA/RDR.

Rockstar needs an open world game built for every major era IMO.

If not that, I would make a true Diablo 2 successor.

Definitely an open-world game with a character creator; torn between Roaring 20's in New York and Conquistador-era New World for my setting. Either that or a 3D battle mage fighting game where you'd fight with both hand-to-hand and spells like fireballs and stuff. It would probably end up playing like the DBZ games, but artistically I'd be going more for that SoulCalibur aesthetic.

If we are talking about existing franchises, however, there's only one answer: Saints Row 5 with a destruction engine like Crackdown 3 or Red Faction Guerrilla. I've been waiting too long to be able to tear down a skyscraper with a meter-long dildo-bat.

A worthy successor to the N64 AKI wrestling games.
Oooh. Still the GOATs. I would be psyched with a No Mercy remaster, the controls were all you need for a wrestling game. I don't want to have to press A plus X plus twirl the joystick plus pray to Jesus just to pull off a piledriver.

A mmorpg set in the Warhammer 40k/Fantasy universe.

I had an idea for a Survival RPG called Portals

Its a survival game where you can log in to different official servers, and every server is attached to one another through a portal. No matter what server you play on, you can access any other server with everything you have in your inventory.

Say you wanted to raid someone from another server, you could go to the portal section of the map, access whatever server you want to travel to, and you would load in to that server at the portal section of that server, with everything you had on you. This way everyone can find each other if they want. It would also be a safe zone.

The maps would be huge with emphasis on base building and customization. Tons of materials, build options, doors, locks, windows, hatches, security systems, guard dogs, turrets etc

It would be hard to raid but not impossible. You would need skills like lock picking and security disabling, not just brute force explosives.

Guns would be rare to find or craftable with certain rare materials.

Tons of resources to find and refine as well. Tons of different armors/skins for items and base structures.

Think of building a giant castle base or a futuristic skyscraper, all possible.

Resources are kept in boxes and safes inside your base.

I can imagine it, and it would be amazing.

Id also consider adding zombies at night who attack your base and if its not properly defended it can be damaged or destroyed.

They can also drop items on rare occasions.

Modern take on games that aren’t really represented in today’s market.

I’d try to make something like either Dungeon Keeper or Crusader: No Remorse. Neither game really fits in any particular genre, and neither have any contemporaries today.

If I was feeling less ambitious then maybe a dark fantasy FPS like Heretic or Hexen

Either way, whatever I’d make would harken back to older times and try to be “unique” from what’s typical part and parcel from the industry these days.

Where have you been? There are a ton of retro themed games out. Practically half the steam library.
