If you don't have a basis yet in the striking department and have never done any serious grappling/wrestling in the past, is it too late to make a career out of mixed martial arts?

Don’t worry about making a career. Just go to the gym, train grappling, striking, wrestling etc. If you have talent it will show. And even if you don’t have training MMA is still awesome and good for your health.

Yes Aaron Pico got into MMA at the late age of 20 and was a total bust despite having way better credentials than you

just like with everything in life, you gotta start young if you wanna get anywhere,

lol.. Pico wrestles since he's 4 and boxes since childhood as well, what Pico did at late age of 20 was his pro MMA debut, but he's training in martial arts since a little kid

Yes unless you have DNA in the top 0.0000000001 percentile or something.

21 isn't too old at all. If you have no athletic background, 25 is the cutoff from when you could reasonably expect to never make a career out of it.

It will probably take about 8-10 years to get to a high level if you train hard, but someone who is 30 years old with a successful professional MMA career isn't at all abnormal.

Just work hard and stay dedicated.

Guys that are top level fighters debuted as late as 24-25 as a pro. Sometimes if u start later you’ll have less mileage on you in ur 30s,

That’s a good thing

People usually turn pro within 2 years and you can be on a big show with like 10 pro fights under your belt. So no, it isnt too late if you're in the gym 5-6 days a week working hard and have a knack for it.

If you want to have fun and just get the experience of fighting and being able to defend yourself, it isnt too late even at 40.

If youre a natural and athletic enough to match the physical intensity you can do some good development and go pro at 26 and still have a very good career. Sergio Martinez started boxing at 20 and became world champion. You just have to be special.

20/ 21 is a good age to pick up martial arts.

Isn't too late at all. You could have decent striking/purple level BJJ at 25 and start amateur fights. At 27 you can have a good amount of amateur experience and start working on pro fights.

It’s too late for you bro.

Start learning bingo.

Join the military. You'll get free MMA training along with all kinds of benefits, honors, and post retirement privileges.

Not really, if you show promise and dedication, you could make it. Thiago Alves was 21 when he started training Muay Thai.

He's not a bust whatsoever lmfao wow.

Also he has been wrestling, boxing, and doing pankration since a young age.......not a good example at all.

Not at all.

Don’t start thinking about being too old for stuff in your early 20s. I went through a “I’m getting too old to try new things” crisis at 23 and now at 31 I see how fuckin ridiculous that was.

Just look at the average MMA fighter. Some guys start at 35 and get a good career. Some burnout by 25.

with a world class coach 21 is not too late at all... but you will need to have some natural talent/be naturally athletic and have amazing work ethic. If you're smart, hard working and athletic with a good coach you could still accomplish a lot

Training nonstop fill up the gaps of your age as long as you're healthy,

If you want it then go train and fight.

21 is very young for mma.
