Is Julian Jackson the hardest puncher in boxing?

Tyson did hit hard, but beyond the concussive power of his shots he brought angles and speed, which prevented his opponents from seeing them coming. If we're talking about pure power, guys like Foreman, Lewis and Liston arguably hit harder than him.

My dad used to do work in NYC and he went to a training session of Mike Tyson. He said it sounded like a bomb was hitting the bag. Julian Jackson is probably top p4p but Iron Mike is top ever

Well that's it, I'm convinced !

P4p perhaps. But when it comes to raw power, it would have to belong to a heavyweight.

According to the opinion of someone who fought Earnie Shavers, George Foreman, Ron Lyle, and Cleveland Williams... Shavers was the hardest puncher "by far".

He says Foreman's punches felt more like "boom!", while Shavers was a "shocking" type of punch that he felt right down to his toes:

That's a good point: as fans we all go on about the hardest this or that, but as per the McCallum anecdote up-thread (talking about Jackson hitting him) & videos of dudes getting splatted by The Hawk, all power is not the same & it does not affect people the same.

A lot of Jackson's victims looked surprised, & like they'd involuntarily lost control of their nervous systems: they'd go down with their legs twitching weirdly whilst they tried to walk away. A lot of Hearns's victims looked like they'd just been shot by a sniper. Tyson's best wins ended with dudes staring-glassy eyed up at the lights, while Big George lifted people clean off their feet & flung them across the ring.

Momentum & force of impact has a range of effects, simply 'cos the act of getting hit by a human fist is an inexact science & everyone's nervous/musculo-skeletal system's different & reacts in different ways.

Indeed. I think boxers like Julian Jackson and Mike Tyson could be seen as sharper punchers whose shots pierce through their opponent and jolts their nervous system; while heavier punchers may throw their shots slower but connect with a blunt, bludgeoning force that reverberates through the tissues of the whole body.

Larry Holmes made such a distinction after getting KOed by Tyson, where he felt that Tyson had a sharper punch, but that other opponents he's fought, like Shavers, hit him "much harder":

Hardest puncher lb per lb...arguably...there are tons of them that have a punch that can change the game....it also depends on who's receiving it.

It goes to show how good Ali's chin was. He got clipped right on the chin CLEAN with several powerful straight rights from Shavers. Never went down!

Yeah looking at his fights, he sure took some shots, clean ones from Foreman too. Tysons said it best, Ali just refused to lose. His mental composure was probably made of cast iron. Still, considering the power ofor those men, it was a Frazier left hook 1971 that dropped Ali. By God that man had a left hook!

True....but i think the Frazier knockdown was mostly due to exhaustion! It was the 15th rd of one of the most intense fastest paced heavyweight fights of all times. And Ali still wasn't in proper conditioning due to the layoff. Still, Frazier's left hook was devastating.

So Julian Jackson hits harder than Tyson and George Foreman ................ ok then.

He has a hell of a lot more one punch knockouts than either of Tyson or Foreman who usually needed a barrage of punches. Jackson did it with just one most of the time.

Shavers is sort of the HW version of Jackson.

Robinson did duck Burley.

He never fought Tony Zale either, who was actually pretty good. Not sure if it was timing in their careers or SRR straight up actually ducking Zane. Depending who you talk to, I guess.

In his division during his reign, probably.

But in this guy's division, he's the man...

So you think Julian Jackson would one shot a 17-18st pro boxer?

Julian Jackson p4p may hit harder but in actual reality he does not hit harder than Foreman or prime Tyson.

There's one thing KO'ing Light Middle weights and another KO'ing Heavy weights.

He doesn't hit harder than out of prime Tyson. Let's be realistic. Tommy hearns hit like a truck at welter, he isn't flattening Shannon Briggs anytime.

P4p I got Julian Jackson, all time, probably Foreman, Wlad should get a shout imo. That giant Ukrainian bastard can fucking punch.

Jackson had short circuiting power. The kind of shit that makes people's brains go goofy. It is one thing to be hit by bombs that hurt you and move you around. It is another to get hit with stuff that makes it so you can't even think.
