Is McGregor the biggest hype job in MMA history?

No way he's the biggest hype job.

McGregor is one of the best specialists in the UFC. Any P4P claims for him are rubbish - he clearly struggles going up vs more physically imposing men. He has some glaring holes in his game which we've been discussing ad nauseam. He's still able to beat people standing but a compounding issue is that there are plenty good wrestlers and well rounded fighters in the LW division. It's no shame being 5th, 6th in that division imo.

Clearly he was overrated by some and the UFC had a profit motive that made them hype McGregor but he's still an elite fighter - just nowhere near GOAT talk or P4P considerations.

Honestly I think both were pretty similar, good fighters but with some pretty clear flaws to their games that got exposed in the end.

Lesnar was IMHO worse, at least on Sherdog anyway were probably 3/4 of the forum jumped on his hype like it was 1997 and we hadn't seen Mark Kerr's career play out.

Also true.

I think Conor and Rousey are the biggest hype jobs ever instigated by the UFC!

But he avoided all the wrestlers at FW. He wouldn't even touch the FW belt if the UFC made him fight full camp Mendes and Edgar. Mendes could do what Khabib did if he has a full camp (and cycles properly)

I think Aldo, Mendes and Edgar are better fighters at FW.

It must be so nice to be you...
I can only dream of being so simple that real life is but a passing of time.

I hate how folk say he ran through the feather weight division. He avoided loads of fights at FW. He got one lucky left hand and has been conning everyone since. Most overrated fighter of all time.

A whole lot of you fuckers are astoundingly retarded.

Biggest hype job is obviously Artem Lobov. But how can you argue with that record.

Good fighter. Complete glass cannon.

But its not unusual for even great champs to have crushing defeats. Cain, Silva, Penn, Liddell, Fedor, Werdum, Benson etc all got wiped out without looking remotely competitive.

It will happen to Khabib as well eventually.

Something I was in a bit of denial over, but now appears to be a major problem is that the business, and the side show circus that surrounds him has clearly become a problem. When Conor came to the UFC he was just a hungry and active competitor. Now he’s basically a giant corporation. So he could turn some of this negativity around if he wanted to. But I’m not sure he’s going to be properly motivated. Too many outside interests.
