I know in the West the majority seems to be on the Palestinian side along with hatred of Israel. I've tried over the years to understand this problem but always come away with more questions. As far as i'm aware the jews have been in that part of the world for thousands of years haven't they? Do the Palestinians claim they were there before that?

They are both native to that place. Arab is a complicated term. Historically it meant nomads living in the arabian peninsula. Nowadays it means anyone that speaks Arabic.
Most palestinians are natives to the region that got arabized after the islamic conquests, of course, they have some genes from the arabs (and greek, roman, persian, turks) invaders, but they are still mostly a native people to that region.
Jews, are mostly another native people to that region, that during their diaspora mixed in with other local populations. Sephardi jews mixed with the spanish, portuguese and modern day morrocans, ashkenazi mixed in with germans and slavs, but they're also mostly a middle eastern people, excluding recent converts(ivanka trump) and ethiopian jews(black africans that converted to judaism).

About being a recent invention, yes, they didn't have a government for themselves, but what does that mean? That just means they were subjects to other more powerful groups.

It's just zionist propaganda to justify getting rid of the palestinians.
Change the words to black/bantu(ethnic group in south africa, nelson mandela group) south african and claim they're just africans and should live in the bantustans(black only areas of south africa) to justify apartheid or separation(west south africa remains white, east becomes black). Because in fact, blacks(bantus) barely lived in western south africa, it was inhabited mostly by Afrikaneers and the khoikhoi.

Another very common argument is that arabs have X countries while jews only have one:

Israel is an Ashkenazi country for Ashkenazi jews, and Ashkenazis are descendants of merchants and travelers who lived in Europe for thousands of years and mixed with the locals, modern rabbinical judaism isnt the direct descendant of the Hasmodean religion who was wiped off when they rebelled against the Romans.

Also archeological evidence shows that there was no such thing as a massive dispersion of people during the hebrew revolt and the destruction of the second temple, thats just another lie invented by jews elsewhere.

I'm not sure there was no dispersion, but the rest is pretty much spot on. The palestinians are natives that got arabized and converted to islam. Before that they were Phillistines, Moabites, Caananites, and even...jews. Many would also call themselves greek at the time, because many spoke greek when the arabs took over as it was kind of a lingua franca, the new testament itself was written in greek because of that. Although they were not genetically greek.
