I'm not sure what your first sentence suggests. Animals are euthanized via injectible barbiturates all the time.
Lethal injection is not about a barbiturate overdose, barbiturates is used to supposedly make the prisoner go unconsciouss (again not checked at all, not performed by trained personel), what actually kills is the muscle relaxant.
There is a clause in the humane slaughter act to exempt halal and kosher due to the infringement on the religious freedom act.
Throat slitting without rending the animal insensible first in any other circumstance is illegal when preformed outside of ritual religious (halal & kosher) slaughter.
This is certainly not true from true Kosher meat, it would result in lower meat quality if the animal suffered during slaughter. There are plenty of studies on meat quality and Kosher and none really find any difference between method of slaughter.
Cortisol level increase in animals have more to do with how animals are treated before slaughter, and i would say its the same for prisoners, far more fear before you are actually killed than during killing.
