ISPs say they can’t expand broadband unless gov’t gives them more money

<DontBelieve1>

I have nothing else. Part of me wants to find the powerbox for my local Xfinity store and take an ax to it.

100+ dollars a month per household isn’t enough? Greedy fucks

@Gregolian

Yea, the great thing about not having roommates is a quiet house, the downside is paying all the bills yourself

This article actually made me want the government to seize control of the entire ISP industry...enough is enough.

Not enough for them to expand to rural areas, which makes sense. There are less people that are more spread out in rural areas, as well as fewer technicians, so the cost is exponentially higher.

@Scheme

High population areas offset that cost

Just think of how much money Manhattan brings in, hell, all of the major metropolitan areas are a gold mine for these providers

Yeah but why would a company lose money when they could not lose money?

They want all the benefits of being a utility without the obligations. <{MindBrown}>

@Scheme

If they get government subsidies they will be regulated, they really don’t want that

That’s because 8 months ago the FCC reclassified mobile phone data and it is now considered broadband.

That's some shady shenanigans right there.

I'm all for government and companies being separate, but this cuts both ways. ISPs need to shove it, asking for federal money. What a load of bullshit.

Who could possibly be surprised by this? Corporations acting in their own interests? Clearly shocking.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.
New York State has finally had enough and is kicking Spectrum out of its state.
The commission approved the Charter-Time Warner merger in 2016 on a number of conditions, including expanding services to 145,000 homes within four years, with a focus on rural areas. The commission says the company has failed to meet milestones for that expansion, and has now given the company 60 days to come up with a plan to hand over its customers to other providers—that is, to sell its assets in New York.

They're blaming Verizon for not meeting the deadline because Verizon wouldn't move their lines on the poles. What's ironic is they do the same shit.

Here's a great article on the cluster fuck of utility poles

This is why I'm voting this November. The customer being under the boot heel of the corporations has to be curbed somewhere.

Enough is enough.

Support local ISPs. Lots of small local fiber providers are popping up around the country. As soon as one shows up in my part of Jerz, out goes the FiOS contract.

These degenerates play super filthy. Fuck em.
This is not a good idea. I've used these local places before and they are far to unreliable. The local place around us constantly goes down I don't even get how it's in business.

Big business screaming gibs me dat? Shocking!

Something needs to be done for rural areas. Satellite broadband is pretty shitty.

I've been saying this for a while – internet media giants want to be regulated. It gives them a reason to ignore market demands and practically guarantees that they turn a profit.
This is true. Regulations make it nearly impossible for smaller competitors to be viable. Big guys love 'em.
