David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Star in J.J. Abrams’ GOD PARTICLE

Following the success of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Paramount is moving quickly on another J.J. Abrams-produced property with David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in negotiations to star in the sci-fi thriller God Particle. Julius Onah is directing the film with Abrams producing through his Bad Robot banner.

Originally set up at Paramount InSurge before its shuttering, the long-in-development pic takes place in the near future. It centers on a team of astronauts who make a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for their survival. The film will hit theaters on Feb. 24, 2017, with production scheduled to start sometime in the second quarter.

Oyelowo recently finished production on A United Kingdom costarring Rosamund Pike, as well as Disney’s Queen of Katwe. He is also shooting American Express.

Mbatha-Raw most recently appeared as Will Smith’s wife in Concussion and has the Civil War drama Free State of Jones, opposite Matthew McConaughey, bowing this summer. She can be seen next in Disney’s 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast adaptation.

John Krasinski Joins J.J. Abram's Sci-Fi Thriller GOD PARTICLE

John Krasinski is in early talks to join J.J. Abrams' sci-fi thriller God Particle. Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot banner, while Julius Onah will shoulder directing duties.

Krasinski would be joining David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who are in talks for the project, which centers on a team of astronauts who make a terrifying discovery that challenges everything they know about reality and each other. The Office alum will play one of the astronauts.

Krasinski was recently seen in Michael Bay's 13 Hours and starred in and directed the Sundance family dramedy The Hollars. Next, he will lend his voice to the animated feature Animal Crackers, along with Sylvester Stallone and wife Emily Blunt.

Elizabeth Debicki Joins J.J. Abrams' Sci-Fi Thriller GOD PARTICLE

The Great Gatsby actress Elizabeth Debicki is in negotiations to join David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Paramount’s sci-fi pic God Particle.

John Krasinski was also in talks, but the status of his casting is currently unclear. J.J. Abrams is producing the film though his Bad Robot banner with Julius Onah directing. The film will hit theaters on Feb. 24, 2017, with production scheduled to start sometime in the next few months.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Villain Daniel Bruhl Joins GOD PARTICLE

Daniel Bruhl, who plays a key villain in Captain America: Civil War, is heading into space. The German actor, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the racing movie Rush, is in final negotiations to join the esteemed cast of God Particle, Paramount’s sci-fi thriller from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.

David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, John Krasinski and Elizabeth Debicki have already signed on to the mission to play crewmembers aboard a space station who find themselves alone after a scientific experiment causes Earth to disappear. When a space shuttle appears, the space station crew must determine if they are friend or foe. Bruhl will also be part of the team. Julius Onah is directing the movie.

Brulh made his international debut by being part of the ensemble of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, playing a cinema-loving Nazi war hero. He recently wrapped war drama The Zookeeper’s Wife with Jessica Chastain.

Zhang Ziyi and Chris O'Dowd Join Sci-Fi Thriller GOD PARTICLE

Ziyi Zhang, the Chinese actress who starred in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as well as Memoirs of a Geisha, is joining Paramount’s sci-fi thriller God Particle from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot.

Chris O'Dowd (Bridesmaids, Thor: The Dark World) is also joining the growing international cast. He is taking the part previously earmarked by John Krasinski, who has exited the project.

J.J. Abrams' GOD PARTICLE is Actually a CLOVERFIELD Film

The mysterious upcoming J.J. Abrams-produced film God Particle will be the latest movie connected to the producer’s cult hit Cloverfield, an insider familiar with the project told TheWrap.

Not only will Particle be the third in a series of connected Cloverfield films, but Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures are quietly developing more movies for the shared universe, the individual said. Both parties hope to release a new film in the shared Cloverfield each year, the insider added.

Fans of Cloverfield and its cinematic cousin 10 Cloverfield Lane, which starred John Goodman and was released in March, speculated the God Particle was indeed connected to the same universe when the project was announced in February.

Particle is about a team of astronauts who make a “shocking discovery” and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality. Julis Onah (The Girl Is in Trouble) directed from a script by Oren Uziel. It stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd. The film is set to open wide on Feb. 24, 2017.

The J.J. Abrams-produced sci fi flick 'God Particle' actually takes place within the Cloverfield universe, a new report claims.

A source close to The Wrap says that the movie will be next year's Cloverfield entry (after this year's 10 Cloverfield Lane), with a new one expected to be released annually.

Bad Robot and Paramount's God Particle was first announced in 2012, but went into limbo for several years after Paramount's independent arm InSurge went under. It's now back on track with a February 24, 2017 release date. Here's the description of God Particle from our original 2012 article:

"After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom."

God Particle is directed by Julis Onah, and stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki,Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd.
