To be fair to Pope Francis, I do not think he is running his twitter account and has no idea how twitter works. I have no idea what he really thinks about the weapons issue. I'm sure he would like to see the world disarm, but I doubt he really thinks the world is simply going to agree to disarm and magically achieve peace.

Pope Francis has seen a lot of terrible things happen in his lifetime. I find it hard to believe that he can be naively optimistic about human nature and evil in the world.

I'm sure the Pope is aware of what twitter is. He probably does not know how to tweet and probably does not have the time. Most people in their 80's have no idea how to even turn a computer on. The Pope just does not seem like the kind of person who cares to take the time to tweet random thoughts. He probably has a public relations team that runs his twitter account.
