Sherdoggers, as much Khabib is our new crowned hero at lightweight, there is another obstacle he had to face in dagestan. I know majority of you already think Dagestan is a rough place filled with conflict. But the place is also known to have alot of combat athletes from the region to be murdered or incapacitated.
Basically
- 20-year-old boxer Rasul Gadzhimagomedov was stabbed to death on a street in 2016
- Ali Bulachaev, the Dagestani judoka who was gunned down while seated in his car in March 2012.His wife, Patimat Abakarova, joined the ranks of a Dagestani terrorist group shortly thereafter.
- On January 14, 2012, renowned Kung Fu and Wushu Sanda champion Yunus Huseynov was killed by being shot seven times
- Russian MMA pioneer Mussail Alaudinov, the late head coach of the infamous 'Gorets' gym in Dagestan. was assassinated with 27 shots in his car because of his unsavoury ties with the detained Makhachkala mayor
- Gasan Magomedov, who was gunned down in his car in 2015.
- The mayor of Makhachala, Dagestan from 1998-2013 Amirov spent his days in a wheelchair afer his spinal cord was shot in 1993. During this time there was significant power struggles and turf wars throughout the region.
- Fighters are suspected of attempting to murder Shamil Kuramagomedov, a bronze medalist in the 2017 Russian Combat Sambo Championship. According to the report, eight suspects attacked Kuramagomedov in June 2017 and beat him within an inch of his life.

As we know Khabib, his dagestani team and family have managed to avoid all this major conflict by aligning themselves with Russian Oligarch Ziyavudin Magomedov, who has been reported to fund the camps, Khabibs back surgery. He was recently jailed and Khabib asked Putin for his release post ufc 223.

Have to give khabib and his family the benefit of the doubt here, its very difficult to be successful without aligning yourself to one of Dagestan's wealthy oligarchs who look to abuse their power and even use their fighters as bodyguards and debt collectors. Hopefully this new attention from the world and most importantly Putin give more effort in trying to solve the corruption and abuse in this part of Russia
