Kyokushin/Muay Thai pros and cons

You haven't posted anything of substance or knowledge ever.

Lol. @AndyMaBobs actually has posted some solid stuff before, including some articles about techniques, but you definitely haven't ever posted anything good though.

Oh really. Inform me then of amateur Swedish Thaiboxning fights with elbows allowed. You are the one talking out of your ass.

First you said that elbows were not allowed in sparring in Sweden, now you're changing it to amateur fights. Guess what, both exists: http://www.ifmamuaythai.org/wp-cont...A-RULES-AND-REGULATIONS_03MAR2017_UPDATED.pdf

Please stop embarrassing yourself.

It's cool, I'm a professional analyst who works in an MMA gym, he's a troll ;)

Personally, I agree with Spacetime... I believe AndyMaBobs to be the biggest troll on Sherdog, and out to get me... Punching in Muay Thai... pffffff... What other nonsense do you have in store, Mr big shot professional analyst who works in a MMA gym? Kicking in boxing maybe?

Punching to the thighs > leg kicks

They're scored under 2017 rules. Kicking doesn't score anymore, Thais decided to agree with the rest of the world that kicking is for housewives and poor cowards

Benson Henderson has truly revolutionized the world of kickboxing. Thank you Jesus and praise the lord!

I agree, fighters like Tank Abbott have paved the road for Muay Thai in America, flawless and clean technique, esp. the clinch.

Anderson is a muay thai specialist who got outstruck by Weidman, it proves that wrestling is the superior striking art

See what the presence of AndyMabobs is doing to this forum? Now, every one is trolling by presenting some of the darkest hours of MT history... People are trying to forget those horrors, and the seconds accounts of Andy will disrespect our memory by posting those hideous clips...

Not a single point was scored, and not any damage was done during that round... It's like watching karate katas, or aikido sparring...

Just wait, the gamblers will see that punching is much more practical than moo kickin' and the spot will evolve to be 99% punches, 1% bad voodoo dancing + killing cat music

ever since all the drama on my stance thread, i blocked both those idiots.

Isn't it more risky driving in that condition? Coming back from training barely walking and feeling fucked up.

I've had some gym wars and I normally take the transit, but damn if I were to drive I probably wouldn't make it.

No I was doing kyokushin - so wasn't really eating head shots. It was much easier to plonk yourself in a car and drive home in comfort.

The opposite was walking to the station all fucked up & stiff, waiting for a train, sweating like a bitch, not getting a seat on the train, standing for like 30 to 45mins and then walking home when I got to my local station - especially in the winter. It was more the sweating part that put me off. Don't really like to be all sweaty and stuck in a train packed to the brim with people.

I will say that I don't think driving is particularly smart if you've had a hard sparring session and eaten some punches to the face. I've had instances where I'm driving and literally a whole junk of time just goes by while I'm spaced out. I'm sure others here have experienced that too. It kind of made me re-evaluate whether I need to be doing this to my brain if it's a lifestyle for me. I have no aims of being a professional fighter - so don't really need to be doing that. I'm fine with light/medium sparring but don't really need to be sparring hard.

That's one good thing about kyokushin sparring - no headshots means you save more brain cells but at the expense of realism. But on the flip side - you can still get concussed with a kick/knee or if someone accidentally blasts you in the face full force with a punch (I've had that happen to me multiple times). To be honest I've come to appreciate the semi-contact approach - you're learning how to deal with punches but not really getting concussed in the process.

Ideally it would be great to have semi contact (head) & full contact (body/legs). But it's rare to find a dojo/gym that does both - usually it does one more than the other or one better. From my experience as well trying out quite a few styles - most do one or the other. Very few gyms do both. A lot of full contact gyms as well you have to contend with light sparring actually turning into medium or hard sparring - that happens often. People treat sparring as a competition rather than a learning process in full contact gyms. In semi-contact I've found people are a lot more careful with smacking you to hard in the face.

The driving part isn't so bad, it's the getting out of the car part when you arrive home that kills you. There was one time when I drove home after a long sparring session and parked my car in the garage, then couldn't get out of the car since everything had stiffened up during the drive home. I had to back the car into the driveway so I could get the door all the way open, then kinda rolled out of the car and picked my sorry ass up off the ground.
Sounds like a scene straight from "The wolf of wall street". You sure you didn't have any coke after training? :D

Now that most ppl here are trolling I'm just gonna add that us Shotokan folks will simply outlast all ya'll MT and KK guys some day. Sure, you can kick my sorry semi-contact point-fighting ass with ease TODAY but if we meet up in 30 years from now all you poor injured SOBs are going DOWN! :D

I wouldn't bet on that. These MT fighters may be old and fat, but I still wouldn't want to get in the ring with either one of them.

How old are they in that vid? Should senior citizens be allowed to risk their health like that?
