Machida was supposed to fight Griffin at UFC 70. Who would have won ?

"Outworked him"? Forrest would have never even touched him.
Meh. At that time guys like hoger and heath were going the distance. Not saying those fights were close, but forrest was better than those two. We can argue all day, but its closer than most think imo.

I agree. To have that ability to be composed, to time it, to place the punch there, to have the left arm up in anticipation of Bader throwing the right - it's just tactical brilliance only the elite few strikers in the world possess.

Lyoto is one of the greats !
I think it reflects poorly on Bader as much as it was about Machida being awesome. Striking 101 says dont rush in with your chin up. Lunging punches like that are high risk yet they were Baders main means of attack.

And IIRC, Ken Shamrock was supposed to fight a young, fresh-off-of-TUF3 Michael Bisping at UFC 75, before the UFC screwed Shamrock out of the last fight on his contract and he sued them.
Bisping-Shamrock?<mma4>Interesting.

I'd love to have seen Ken get a leg lock on Bisping. Of course if it happened, Bisping would now be begging the UFC for a Shamrock rematch for his next title fight. 46-year old Hendo was a bit too dangerous...maybe 50+ year old Ken will be a little easier.

He legit just said screw it and charged him. You’re never meant to cross your legs but does and literally runs straight at him

Machida....likely by stoppage. As good as Forest may have been at one point, Lyoto is just a match up nightmare for him at any stage of their respective careers.

Toss up. Forrest has always been vastly underrated.

Would have been interesting.

The smart money would have been on Machida, but Griffin is a weird fighter - especially back then when he was in his prime.

Easy win for Machida

Griffin didn't have the KO power to stop Machida nor the skills to consistently tag him for a decision. He also definitely did not have the wrestling to take down Machida.

Not even close.....at UFC 70, Machida would've been too much for Forrest. Griffin s only path to victory would've been to drag Lyoto down but that wasn't happening back then.

Griffin would have out worked him at that time. He didnt know any better and went for it. Machidas style would have not been elusive enough.
Machida not elusive? Im guessing you werent around back then. Machida was the most elusive guy that was hard to hit. He then changed his style to be more entertaining.

Not to mention machida went toe to toe with a in shape shogun in their first fight. Griffin beat a handicapped shogun.

Machida Would Have Given Forrest the Shad-face treatment.

Machida by unconceivably exciting unanimous decision. An epic battle to be remembered for ages, and to be forever recorded in the history of martial arts.
