France's Macron under fire after aide caught hitting May Day protester

Alexandre Benalla, one of Macron's staff top security guy, was observing a police operation and then decided to take some of the police's gear and to beat on at least two peaceful protesters. He ran away as soon as he realized he was caught on tape. Macron's staff was informed and discreetly suspended the guy for two weeks, greeting him back right after that and even giving him a big role in the French Team security when they returned with the World Cup. Nobody knew about it for two months, until Le Monde recognized him on the video.

The French law is pretty clear, civil servants and senior officers absolutely have to report any crime or felony that they know about. Now that Alexandre Benalla has been identified, there is a whole shitstorm rising for how they handled the situation without ever reporting it to a judge. Assaulting people while wearing police gear and not being actually into law enforcement is pretty serious.

The judges just opened a case and everybody is now trying to find who knew and kept it secret.

Edit : Alexandre Benalla is now in police custody and is going to be fired. But that's not the end of it, as it is now clear that policemen have been told to edit all the security cameras that filmed the scene and to send it to Benalla. So now it's not just about being discreet about that incident, but there was clearly a full cover-up organised by the presidential staff.

Macron to fire bodyguard caught on camera beating protester

(No English sources yet for the cover-up)

Huh. If they would’ve been up front about it, this would have been a non story of some security guy overstepping bounds and getting fired

They tried to cover it up, and it got a whole hell of a lot worse. Funny how that happens

Rothschild bankers underling beats peasant asking for living wage? I'm shocked.

There are plenty of conspiratard theories connected to the Rothschild's. But being rich and using state violence to protect their riches is not one of them.

I thought they were super rich and have bragged about the wars they have financed.

Literally Trumpler..... what?

Sounds like a juicy scandal.
Only in Am-- oh

It will probably end with the resignation of the minister of the Interior (according to Wiki as I am not sure of the American equivalent : The office is equivalent to the Interior Minister of other countries, like the Home Office of the United Kingdom, or similar to a combination of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Department of Homeland Security). The thing is that this man, Gérard Collomb, is Macron's mentor and one of his very earliest political supports. It would be a huge blow to lose it but I don't see how to avoid it now, especially since both the left and the right strongly dislike Collomb (seen as a traitor by the left and eternally tainted for being a former socialist for the right)

The initial details of the incident are Americrazy level.

It's turning more and more like a House of Cards episode. It was revealed that Benalla had a maximum clearance to go to the National Assembly. The thing is, because of the separation of powers, the French president isn't allowed to ever go to the National Assembly. So the guy in charge of his security had full access to one of the only places in France where is presence could never be justified.

It was also revealed that he used to have a gun before having a permit, and that his previous gun application (under Hollande's presidency) was literally declined because dude "thinks he is some kind of Rambo".

Dude is clearly Macron's undercover henchman and thinks could get nasty, if he starts talking now that he is in custody.
