Crime Maria Butina Pleads Guilty to Working on Behalf of the Kremlin Through the NRA

Republicans in this thread saying:

1) its ok that Russians mess with our elections cause America does it to other people.

2) Russian interference in USA is ok cause they don't tolerate homosexuality

add

3) Its just a little bit of illegal influence. Lets not talk about it.

Has anyone here ever spent any time away? Even county for a weekend ..

Why was she in solitary? That shit is cruel. Could break anyone

I don't like this. This is just 100% fucked.

I guarantee every single one of us would plead guilty if thrown in solitary. This is the kind of shit you see in movies and can't believe it can happen

I think it's absolutely incredible that Russia managed to compromise the GOP, what with them being mortal, dire nemesis for decades. The entirety of the Cold War was conservative America being freaked the fuck out about those god damn Russians infiltrating our freedom... and now here we are.
They were always several steps ahead of our intelligence and counter-intelligence apparatus, but this is just non-stop impressive to me. I think it really shows how hard of a shift has occurred on one side of the spectrum when certain elements of our conservative politics actively court Russian meddling in our institutions and society. Absolutely unthinkable 50 years ago, and a scandal of huge proportions just 20-25 years ago. I'm no fan of Reagan, but he's spinning in his grave like a top.

Reagan has more in common with Trump than the open borders insane liberal democrats. So noooooo. When Russia was in the soviet union American right wingers opposed them on the basis of their anti religion, and communist platform. After the collapse of USSR though Russia became religious again and nationalist and abaonded communism for populism and socialism in some key areas of the economy. Similar to many other countries.

if you cant see the obvious reason for changes in the American right wings support for russia. The left becoming what it has is what is turned the Right.
The thing about Russia imo is that they are and have always been way more devious than anybody else. At least for the last 70 years. They don't want anything resembling parity in relationships, and joint interest will always be a transitory means to an end. It's not that they are going to take over the world and enslave everyone. They're basically real life geopolitical Romulans.

How is that even close to true? When Russia abided by more international treaties and deals than the US? And when Russia is in the SCO and eurasian union and partnership thing with the EU. And has good relations with Israel and Iran? And japan? And latin america and even qatar and syria?

Meanwhile the US has been pursuing an American unilateral imperialist foreign policy for the past 30 years until obama became president and advocated for some multipolarity and then followed by Trump.

Not to mention that Russia wanted to join NATO! And the EU but the US pushed back against that. Especially the NATO part. Russia in the 90s was weak and wanting partnership with the west but instead Clinton and the US pursued a policy of not sharing any power and some kind of quest for world domination that brought the world the American led and widely globally unpopular iraq war and then American meddling with UK and france in libya and syria.

Are we ok with arresting a black man on a rape charge then throwing him in solitary until he confesses

This shit is legit crazy. We seem to have prosecutors willing to do whatever it takes to break people. This amounts to torture imo. As I view solitary as worse than torture

Man. This blows my mind. I can't believe anyone would support this

Merica first and no groveling...unless its Russia and the Saudis.

You people are both idiotic and hypocritical no end. None of the idiots on this Russia crap gives a shit about foreign dangers, spying, inappropriate relationships, let alone agents from a foreign nation running wild in America.

You are just wrong man. If fact everyone cared until Trump told his base not to care and now 38% of the country don't care. The rest of us still care just like we did before Trump became the president.

She was arrested on July 15 and charged on July 18. Presumably then kept in solitary for the next 5 months pending trial.

Your example is being kept without charge, and doesn't really compare.

Merica should not be throwing women in solitary to break them.

really?

Upon further review: "He said Butina was transferred to administrative segregation on Nov. 21 under false pretext.

Driscoll said the jail staff told him they decided to segregate Butina came after she referred another inmate to her attorney. The facility’s chief and captain, “then resorted to the decision being ‘for her safety,’ knowing that administrative segregation disallows an appeal internally,” the lawyer said."

Looks like she was in solitary for 23 days. not 6 months. And as an aside, solitary in America is a cakewalk compared to regular prison anywhere else.

No, her offense was not a failure to register her activities. Not registering turned her activities into crimes. She didn't register her intentions. Not a crime. She proceeded to act while knowing that she wasn't registered - that is a crime.

You can try to downplay it but I don't know why. This law exists so that we can prosecute foreign spies on our soil.

But I get it. This is in keeping with the sad theme of trumpeting "Protect our nation and our sovereignty" while whispering "Our nation's sovereign integrity doesn't really matter if it's sold for the right price." Lotta Benedict Arnold sympathizers out there. You guys probably would have shot Paul Revere's horse to keep him from riding out, lol.

This is all happening because republicans love money more than county. For a long while making money tied them to THIS country but now that we live more and more in a global economy you can guarantee that the republican love of money will more and more drift away from love of country to love of global economy and the foreing leaders that run them.

Whether this plea is coerced or not, I would like to know how this ties into Trump/Russia collusion and where does Kevin Lee fit into all this.

Spoken like a guy that would have been rooting for Duras over Gowron

And as an aside, solitary in America is a cakewalk compared to regular prison anywhere else.

23/24 hours lockdown, 1 hour walkaround time around indoor "gymnasium". Room is about 7ft x14, concrete countertop, stainless john, and AC is set to 65 or some absurdly cold temperature to keep viruses and smells down.

It's better than 3rd world country prison for sure, though.

Butina laid out her plans in a document called "Description of the Diplomacy Project," according to court documents; she wrote that she believed Russia could not reinvigorate ties with the United States through official institutions.

Instead, she argued, Moscow should expand its "unofficial channels of communication," of which she could be one.
So basically she wants a better relationship between Russia and US and wants to use lobbying to make that happen. How is this different from all the other lobbying that goes on? Because russia bad?

Lol @ right wingers all of sudden caring about solitary confinement.

These are the same people who think a 15 year old should be shot if they stole a candy bar. Or it was “justified”

Well it depends on the color of their skin Of course.

I never said kept without charge. .

And I don't care if she was in solitary for 3 days. That's still too long

You are also 100% wrong about it. It's worse than fucking torture. Solitary would break anyone. Especially someone used to a robust social life.

But nice try

No wonder you are known as the worst poster in the WR

anyone who thinks solitary is ok but for the most extreme violent offenders is plain stupid
