He didn't. Conor never KO's someone moving forwards, he only KOs them going backwards when they run into his punch, that's why going forward without the collision he wasn't able to put out Diaz. It's nothing to do with Diaz' chin, it's a different type of technique.

He was inaccurate, he moved forwards and because he was moving forwards he wasn't able to get the KO - he has never KO'd an opponent taller than him, because his KO's come off of collisions coming in. He was countered with a check hook every step of the way and his wild swings and over extension (head way in front of the knee) wore him out after a round and by using that check hook he forces McGregor to turn, and chase after him further.

That's not absorbing a beating, he got caught as most people would, but its his work in that first round that beat McGregor.

Even in the rematch he wasn't able to KO Diaz and had to adjust his gameplan to leg kicks because of the reach disadvantage.
