How to get him:

P.S. Later in the game you are going to fight a sniper named Quiet. When you beat her, you get to decide whether to kill her or keep her alive. You're gonna want to keep her alive. Believe me.

They have never disappeared after being marked with DD in all my experience with the game, and I use DD almost exclusively.

Quiet, on the other hand, usually fails to mark everyone, leaving you with a nasty surprise from time to time running up on some shithead you didn't have marked. DD marks everyone instinctively, without being told. And he doesn't need to be told not to go rogue and just start sniping people.
I may have been wrong about the dog marking, but there was something about the dog that made me choose Quiet instead. She won't just start shooting people unless you picked a command other than Scout. She will shoot to save you without being specifically told to. I usually have her use nonlethal rifle anyways.

When facing the long range woman baldies, the dog was almost worthless. Didn't really mark them and kept coming back without doing much of anything.

That's what I mean. I never need her to, regardless of what she thinks. For example, if I kick a dude to wake him up and then she just tranqs him again. That kind of stuff blows.

I usually have her use nonlethal rifle anyways.

Oh, me too. I never kill at all unless the game forces me to. For speed purposes, like if I am hunting resources, DD is just superior in every way. I don't need the extra firepower, I just need someone to mark enemies quickly.

Quiet is good early on in the game or for players who tend to get themselves into firefights. DD is superior if you want the combination of speed + stealth, plus he can distract guards or even knock them out if it is ever needed.

Quiet's just got better tits, and nice to look at in the chopper.

I think I read somewhere the more gun turrets, mortars, vehicles you steal, the stronger your PF (private force?) is so you'll win more of those battles and get more points.

Yes. That's right. Resources, Walkers, nukes, soldiers on mother base, and tech development will also help as well, among many other things.

Good thing you can replay most missions especially the ones where the top description indicates what rare specialists can be found there.

The game doesn't do a poor job of incentivizing you to do anything. Like the real world, the world of MGSV just doesn't give a shit. Or like the original Zelda game. They just drop you off and let you fend for yourself. Figure shit out on your own. That's the way games are supposed to be. Explore. Have fun.

It does do a poor job of incentivizing you. The mission variety is severely lacking, and never forces you outside of your comfort zone. You can beat 99% of them with the same approach, and most people will do just that, because why try anything else when you're getting by just sneaking and picking the baddies off? On top of that, the main missions have this arbitrary, yet incredibly annoying rating system that penalizes you for messing around with a good portion of the weaponry. Why would you even want to use a machine gun, if the game is gonna ding you for killing people and alerting guards? Let alone the rest of less than stealthy arsenal.

Most people are gonna play this game like this on their first run, if they want to play it stealthily. Binoculars, mark, mark, mark, sneak, sneak, sneak, tranq, tranq, tranq, with the occasional CQC and interrogation, and pulling out the lethal weapons when they fuck up. In between that, they'll collect shit for the base. Clear area, collect shit, do mission goal, and repeat. Unless you absolutely love the game, most people aren't going to take the time to fuck around with it too much.

Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, and I do think the game offers you a ridiculous amount of freedom if you take the time to learn all of it's intricacies. I'm just saying the game doesn't do a good job at making you want to experiment with it. Most just want to beat the missions as directly as possible, and anything after that, is gonna be left for the more hardcore players.

As for the story, and how it's told, meh. Give me my 30 minute cutscenes back, please.

I love MGS5. I was late to the party, but I just did my second playthrough recently because I felt I had to 100% it. I think it'll be one of those games I replay every other year

If the game was so lame, I doubt it would have sold so many copies.

WAT.

yeah, there's definitely no trend of companies cashing in on a franchise's past for some quick money. and these cash-grabs definitely happen because they're unprofitable. diablo 3 sold 12 copies.

It's a long fucking game.

I couldn't get through it.

I played that and witcher 3 back to back and it killed my will to play long games ever again.

This is one of the best single player games I’ve played. The gameplay is amazing. It’s crazy it turned out so good despite the Kojima/Konami drama and it sucks to know it could have been even better.

I tried to play Witcher 3 around the same time and it just felt so clunky compared to MGS. Felt like Geralt was on ice skates and floaty while Snake controlled perfectly.

holy crap. i didn't buy this because of the way they dicked kojima, and i know the game wasn't even really finished... but this sounds even lamer/worse than i realized. ffs, you can just make a NPC do everything? what's the point? why even play? to get upgrades for npcs to play the game for you even faster? haha

Nah, the game is not like that at all. The NPCs get sent out to specific NPC missions as a side thing. You can’t make them do the actual missions.

The game being “unfinished” is mainly noticeable in the last act of the game where it seemingly just kind of ends. In terms of the gameplay and story up until the last act it is very well polished and it would be hard to know it was unfinished without prior knowledge.

The game does get a bit repetitive though, especially if you want to do all the side missions. In the end there’s only a couple variations of side missions but there’s a total of like 120 or something of them. But the game is so fun it’s easy to overlook that you’re doing the same shit over and over.

It’s a shit game with a shit ending and shit pvp. Having spent 60 hours on it I can say that. Only cool fight was the final boss

The side missions are almost identical to each other and made playing a chore after a while

Although I can’t bitch about repetitive gameplay, I somehow have 700 hours in MHW

For real. Sometimes less is more, or maybe I'm just a Murtaugh, and I'm just too old for this shit

I liked it at first but then I started having to infiltrate places I already infiltrated and I got annoyed that I was repeating levels already so I stopped.
