MMA would be the laughingstock and not taken seriously as a pro sport if Stipe remains champ

The point is that at this level, guys who are part-time fighters working two jobs or more are not supposed to have enough training time to be elite.

Or, it points to the fact that Stipe IS that elite and the rest of the division, training full time, can't even beat a guy that works a full time job and merely moonlights as a fighter.

Does coaching little kids, (and getting paid for it) also qualify as a job and thus any fighter teaching BJJ should be discounted as a black eye on the sport? What about Dom doing announcing work? How bout' a fighter volunteering at his church 20 hours a week?
Could also be that your belief is not inline with reality.

This is not a Stipe bashing thread. The point is that at this level, guys who are part-time fighters working two jobs or more are not supposed to have enough training time to be elite.

The days of part-time or full-time math teachers, accountants, or engineers being UFC champions should be in the past chapters of MMA.

In no other respectable pro sports do we see the athletes working side jobs and still be at the top, let alone be champion.

If Stipe wins next Saturday, it would be a step back for MMA, because it shows that MMA has not evolved much and the level of talents are still mediocre compared to other respectable pro sports.
Do you have any idea how much time off fire fighters have? Stipe's job might actually allow him time to recover & not over train

Controversial opinion:

Stipe's lack of full-time training makes him BETTER because he doesn't overtrain and injure himself as much.

Fighters are coming into the cage at 80%, while Stipe comes in at 95%.

No shit, huh?

TS, why the fuck would his next fight make "MMA a lughinstock" and not his last four fights?

Because next Saturday Stipe is going up against supposedly the first HW in the UFC who is young (4 years younger than Stipe as a matter of fact), athletic, very coordinated and agile for a 260lb'er, and he is training full-time in a multi-million dollar UFC training facility with state-of-the-art equipments and nutritional supports.

All respect to Stipe, who is no doubt a hardworking man, but if he wins, then it basically speaks about the low level of talents in MMA.

When was the last time a part-time boxer beat the likes of Muhamad Ali, Mayweather, Mike Tyson, etc.?

When was the last time a part-time basketball player won the MVP by beating the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, etc.?

When was the time time a part-time soccer player won the FIFA awards by beating the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Maradona, etc.?

It did actually. Thats what TS wanted, to get attention

No, he wanted to counter my thread(which got a lot of support for Stipe) by making this one to gather an anti-Stipe hatefest. It was a spectacular failure and in fact it's more of an extension to my earlier thread.

It's great to see that Stipe does in fact have a lot of support here on sherdog even though most are on the Ngannou hype bandwagon.

LOL @ this thread being 3 pages deep, and people still not understanding why TS made it.

The job of a firefighter is THE perfect profession to moonlight as a "fill in the blank with any career". I got buddies who do this and they all have second careers. Machinist, commercial lawncare, floor refinishing, BBQ smoker manufacturer, fence contractor, etc...........the list is endless.

It also happens to be two careers that feed the ego. Firefighters are about the cockiest bunch you'll ever meet. Ask one this. "How was work today?" and the response will be, "Oh, you know, just another day of saving lives" You know what else feeds the ego? Beating guys up in a sanctioned fight.

TS, I know what you're getting at, that its more a condemnation of the competition than it is the actual title holder. Guess we'll find out next week if Rocky beats the Russian or the commies in Vegas can build an unstoppable force. G-nite !!!

Lmao his record speaks to his skills and eliteness not his day time job

And the fact that hes champ while working a day job speaks to how much/hard the guy works..that if anything is better for MMA makes people feel for him as the working man whos champion..what a weak thread..after next saturday ngannou wont matter ..stipe contuines the unheard of heavyweight streak

i think the opposite - its more of a joke if ngannou becomes champ. dude is still too green

Firemen have a shit ton of time off............

I never cease to be amazed how many people keep spouting this utter shite.

It just so happens that Stipe is one of those work-hard types that gets a little anxious if they're not busy doing something. So he keeps on with a part-time second job. It makes him feel good about being able to help people, he enjoys the camaraderie of his firefighting brotherhood, and he says it helps keep him grounded and sane. And somehow that's supposed to be a black eye not only on him but the entire freaking sport?

Do us all a favor and stand in front of a fire hose going full blast.
Yeah fuck you TS you sonofabitch.

One of the real hero's of MMA...you should be embarrassed for posting that absurdity.

Is this entire thread filled with retards or something? This is clearly a parody thread lol

Also LOL at saying "side job" like he's doing some stupid bullshit job. He's a fuckin fireman and bad motherfucker.

I've got friends that are pretty casual fans and when they heard he was a fireman it just made them think he was more awesome.

Also fuck ball sports. Let's play with a ball and then talk shit and act like we're all badasses!
I don't know why they don't market the fact he's a firefighter.

He could go on talkshows and tell about his runs. Firefighters/EMTs have some crazy stories
