Paramount is saying "Vámos!" to a big-screen version of Dora the Explorer, the popular Nickelodeon children’s series.

Nick Stoller, the writer-director behind films including The Muppets and Neighbors, has been brought on board to work on the script for the project, which will be produced by Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. It hails from Paramount's new Paramount Players division.

The move kick-starts a project that had been inactive for some time. In 2015, Paramount had been developing a movie with Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots) writing and Mary Parent producing.

Details are being kept under wraps, but the live-action take is said to center on Dora, not as a 7-year-old like on the TV series but now a teenager who moves to the city live with her cousin Diego.

No release date has been set, but the studio is gung ho on Dora and is eying a 2019 bow.

Dora the Explorer was a series that proved to be a massive hit for Nickelodeon, running from 2000-2014 with 172 episodes aired. It centered on an young American Latina who, along with her monkey, Boots, faced riddles and characters like a thieving fox named Swiper as she went on quests.

The show translated worldwide, produced merchandising ranging from Legos to video games and even saw stage shows.

Platinum Dunes has a first-look deal with Paramount which has spawned the hit Transformers and Ninja Turtle movies.

While Stoller has written more adult-skewing film fare, such as Get Him to the Greek and Neighbors, he has shown a strong affinity for all-ages subject matter with reboots of the Muppet movies and animated films Storks and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. He currently has Night School, a comedy that he wrote, filming with Kevin Hart starring.

As the concerts get underway the star of stage and screen is 47 and exhausted, fragile, and wanting to be at home with her kids, casting into doubt whether the shows, at the Talk of the Town nightclub, can go on.

Judy is based on a script written by Tom Edge (The Crown) and will be produced by BAFTA winner David Livingstone (Pride) for Calamity Films. British stage director and Tony nominee, Rupert Goold, will direct. The producers said the movie will feature some of Garland’s best-known songs.

Drew Goddard, the Oscar-nominated scribe behind The Martian, is tackling the big-screen adaptation of Nevermoor, a kids' fantasy book that launches on Halloween.

Goddard is attached to pen the script and will produce for Twentieth Century Fox, which pre-emptively picked up the rights last year. The book, with the full title Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, hits shelves Oct. 31 from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. Translation rights have already sold in 27 countries.

Written by Jessica Townsend, the story centers on Morrigan Crow, a girl born on an unlucky day who is blamed for all local misfortune, from hailstorms to hear attacks. Luckily (or unluckily) for her, Crow is found by a man named Jupiter North, who jets her off to a magical city named Nevermoor, where she can escape her fate — but only if she can beat out hundreds of other children in a set of dangerous trials and join an organization named the Wundrous Society.

Goddard is a Fox favorite and is currently in preproduction on the period crime thriller Bad Times at the El Royale, which he wrote and will direct for the studio. ROGUE ONE's Ben Mendelsohn in Talks for the Villain in CAPTAIN MARVEL

HUfkXeR.jpg

Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are in talks with their Mississippi Grind star Ben Mendelsohn for the superhero film’s villain.

Mendelsohn would play the film’s main antagonist, which would likely be the leader of the Skrulls. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige teased earlier this year that the aliens would be featured in the film. Brie Larson is set to star in title role with Kevin Feige producing.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent script with Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts, which follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Feige announced that the superhero film will be set in the ’90s, before the Avengers ever thought of assembling, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury. The pic is expected to bow on March 8, 2019.

Fleck and Boden had Mendelsohn in mind when they first started plotting the story and once the two sides were able to meet, Mendelsohn quickly agreed to pursue the role.

Mendelsohn has been slowly becoming a go-to villain in Hollywood following his role in Star Wars standalone film Rogue One and the upcoming Robin Hood: Origins, where he portrays the Sheriff of Nottingham. Mendelsohn has also shined on TV, winning an Emmy for playing the black sheep of the family on Netflix’s Bloodline. Mendelsohn can be seen next in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

Warner Bros. is giving the DC villain Deathstroke the leading man treatment. The Raid director Gareth Evans is in early talks to write and direct a solo film based on the assassin, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The film would be a starring vehicle for Joe Manganiello.

No deals have been completed with Evans or Manganiello. The actor was previously cast as the villain in Ben Affleck's solo Batman film, back when Affleck was both starring in and directing The Batman. It is unclear if he will still appear in a solo Batman film, which director Matt Reeves is now helming.

Deathstroke was introduced in the comics in 1980 in New Teen Titans No. 2. The character, whose real name is Slade Wilson, is an expert assassin with super strength and stamina. On TV he has been played by Manu Bennett on The CW's Arrow.

Evans rose to prominence as the director of the 2011 Indonesian martial arts film The Raid and its sequel, both of which are known for their ambitious fight sequences. He next has the period thriller The Apostle set to debut via Netflix. Magic Mike star Manganiello has Dwayne Johnson's video game adaptation Rampage due out in April.

Director Justin Lin and Jordan Brewster Returning FAST & FURIOUS 9 and 10

The Toretto siblings are back together again! Vin Diesel took to Instagram on Wednesday to share his reunion with his Fast and Furious sister, Jordana Brewster, and Fast 5 director Justin Lin. "On the road back to our roots... Family reunited!" he captioned the pic.

Diesel first revealed the reunion during a Facebook Live earlier in the day, teasing "top secret" details from the next Fast and Furious installment's "kick-ass set."

"Guess who the director is? You're not going to believe this... the one responsible for resurrecting this beautiful saga. Justin Lin!" he shouted.

"Justin Lin is so old school, he's so part of the DNA of the Fast mythology, that while we're on set today, the one person he wanted to be here immediately, just as he started to feel that sense of Dom, that sense of Toretto, that sense of the Fast and Furious universe and the responsibility of that... he wanted someone who is a part of the brotherhood, when you go past gender. He wanted someone very important to be here, and it's someone you all have been asking for," Diesel continued, before panning to Brewster.

"It feels like no time has passed at all!" she shared.

"This is so exciting.... There's nobody more Torretto than my sister, Jordana Brewster, who is Mia Torretto. And those of you who know the franchise know how much of a badass she is," Diesel shared. "And you're about to see that in the upcoming chapters of the Fast and Furious."

“You wanted 9 and 10 to be incredible. We’ve heard your concerns about the saga and where it needs to arrive in its final chapters,” Diesel said.

Zachary Levi to Star as the Titular Hero in David F. Sandberg's SHAZAM!

9EW9KJe.jpg

Zachary Levi is going to be Earth's mightiest mortal. The actor will star in the DC comic book adaptation Shazam!, which follows a boy named Billy Batson, who can transform into an adult superhero by uttering the magic word "Shazam!" The name is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury, from which the big Batson derives his heroic attributes when in adult form.

David F. Sandberg is directing Shazam! for New Line. The studio is high on Sandberg and sees him as a homegrown talent after putting out his first feature Lights Out in 2016, and releasing the director's Annabelle: Creation, the latest installment of The Conjuring universe. The $15 million horror sequel has earned a big $303 million worldwide since opening in August.

Sandberg is directing Shazam! from a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Annabelle: Creation producer Peter Safran is reuniting with Sandberg for the film, and is also producing DC's Aquaman for Warner Bros.

This is a big move for New Line and Levi, who is known for comedic roles, and starred in NBC's hit spy-comedy series Chuck from 2007-2012. He also has superhero credentials and can be seen next week in Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok as Fandral, one of Thor's companions. He also recently appeared in NBC's Heroes Reborn and the network's Eva Longoria comedy Telenovela.

The film is being developed concurrently with a film focusing on Shazam villain Black Adam to star Dwayne Johnson.

Guillermo del Toro Talks Upcoming Projects, Taking a Year Off from Directing

ic4kO3o.png

Asked about what projects he was producing now that “The Shape of Water,” is finished, Guillermo del Toro said, “I have two projects with Bertha Navarro which we’re studying. We’re talking about producing a film by Patricia Riggen, I can’t say the title, but she’s a super solid director, very nice person. She is the type of writer-director who can benefit from a strong production structure which helps her to express what she’s interested in.

Navarro is del Toro’s longterm Mexico-based producer partner, who has produced all his Spanish-language movies, from del Toro’s 1993 debut “Cronos,” and partners with del Toro to produce third-party directors, such as Celso Garcia on “The Thin Yellow Line.”

Mexican, but now U.S.-based, Riggen broke out with mother-son cross-border drama “Under the Same Moon,” before gong on to direct mine-accident drama “The 33.”

A more complete project involving Navarro and del Toro screened at this year’s Impulso Morelia, the festival’s works in progress section. The documentary “Ayotzinapa,” is a heart-shattering look at the tragic events of Sept. 26, 2014, when 43 students went missing and three more were killed in a highly controversial series of events. The Mexican government, drug cartels, military, the United Nations and a number of independent watch groups all have a different take on that night’s events, but the film is presented from the point of view of the families of the missing, and the students that survived the night.

Of the project del Toro said, “the documentary which screened, Bertha told me we need to make some changes, get some more material. From the moment she began the project, she’s been protecting it a lot, so it’s not ready until she says it’s ready. It was very useful to screen it with a public in Morelia.”

Del Toro also spoke about his B&W movie project “Silver,” which is acquiring the status of legend, without having acquired the form of a film. The story of a masked Mexican wrestler who discovers all politicians are vampires and sets out to slay them – surely a popular contemporary theme – del Toro had “Silver’s” screenplay half-written when he abandoned Mexico for Toronto. Years later, it still isn’t finished.

Del Toro has a “personal commitment” to finish the screenplay, he said in Morelia. Alfonso [Cuarón] is giving me a really hard time on this: ‘Any chance you’ll finish the screenplay?’”

When pressed on any news about the upcoming season 2 of his animated Netflix series “Trollhunters,” the director was coy. “Yes there is news, but Netflix would kill me if I talked. It will come in the next four weeks.”

And, referring to his more immediate plans, “I’m taking a sabbatical for a year as a director. I was going to do ‘Fantastic Voyage,’ but after ‘The Shape of Water’ I need to take pause.”
