First Trailer for Direct-to-DVD Sequel CURSE OF CHUCKY

rbxlwy.jpg

The first trailer for the direct-to-DVD sequel Curse of Chucky has been released online. Director Don Mancini - who has written every single Child’s Play film and directed 2004’s Seed of Chucky - takes the helm as Chucky wreaks havoc on an entirely new family. The production value is actually quite good, and fans of the series will likely be pleased to host a return visit from Chucky in unrated form. The film features the voice of Brad Dourif and stars Fiona Dourif (The Master), A Martinez (Longmire), Danielle Bisutti (CSI: Miami), and Brennan Elliott (Double Jeopardy). Curse of Chucky will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8th.

Synopsis: He’s back! From the filmmakers that brought you Chucky comes the terrifying return of the pint-sized doll possessed by the spirit of a notorious serial killer. When a mysterious package arrives at the house of Nica (Fiona Dourif, True Blood), she doesn’t give it much thought. However, after her mother’s mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that the talking, red-haired doll her visiting niece has been playing with may be the key to the ensuing bloodshed and chaos. The return of America’s favorite toy, voiced again by Brad Dourif, is unrated and full of more blood-splattered thrills and chills.

New Featurette for R.I.P.D. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges

x2qu5y.jpg

Universal has released a new featurette for the action-comedy R.I.P.D. The film stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as two deceased lawmen who now work for the “Rest in Peace Department”, and are tasked with apprehending the souls of dead criminals that refuse to face final judgment. The featurette has got some new footage, and keeps making the flick look like it could be a fun ride, especially with Bridges basically playing a cartoon cowboy. The film also stars Mary-Louise Parker, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Miller, and James Hong. R.I.P.D. opens in 3D on July 19th.

Synopsis: Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.

First Trailer for Western SWEETWATER Starring January Jones

2lbjscx.jpg

The first trailer for the western pic Sweetwater has landed online. The western stars January Jones as a prostitute who hunts down a religious fanatic Prophet Josiah (Jason Isaacs) when he murders her husband (Eduardo Noriega) over a land dispute. Ed Harris co-stars as a crafty sheriff who’s hunting down Josiah for different reasons. The trailer tries to give off a Django Unchained vibe by highlighting the violence.

After premiering at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, the western Sweetwater is still waiting for release here in the United States. But overseas, the film is getting released with the alternate title Sweet Vengeance. The film didn't receive much praise at the indie festival earlier this year, but maybe audiences will turn out for the indie western anyway. No domestic release date yet.

First Trailer for Indie Drama THE LIFEGUARD Starring Kristen Bell

ogywcn.jpg

Focus World has released the trailer for the indie drama, The Lifeguard. Kristen Bell stars as a woman who is unable to cope with her life in the big city, and decides to regress by coming back to her hometown and work her old job as a lifeguard. The trailer tries to condense the message of the movie, which is that regression is a positive thing because it lets you find yourself. The trailer also quickly buries one the major plot points, which is Bell’s character sleeping with a teenager (David Lambert) and calling that self-discovery. The film also stars Martin Starr, Mamie Gummer, Joshua Harto, and Amy Madigan. The Lifeguard opens in limited release on August 30th.

Synopsis: Leigh (Kristen Bell) is almost 30, and living a seemingly perfect life in New York. But when her career and love life both come crashing down, she flees to her suburban hometown and regresses right back into teenage life and behavior. She moves into her old room with her parents, hangs around with friends who never left town, and reclaims her high school job as a condo-complex lifeguard. But as Leigh enjoys shirking adult life and responsibilities and enters into an illicit affair, she begins a chain reaction that affects those closest to her.

THE FIGHTER Scribes to Pen Boston Marathon Bombing Film

TTL_61_OPENER_600x-600x200.jpg

It's been nearly three months since Boston was rocked my the tragic bombings that took place during the city's annual marathon, and it sounds like the feature film dramatization of the events following the attack is already in the works. Casey Sherman and Boston Herald reporter Dave Wedge are working on a book called Boston Strong, which chronicles the city's reaction to the Patriot Day attacks and also the hunt for the two siblings wanted in connection with the bommbings. Though the book hasn't been published, The Fighter writing duo Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy have already landed the rights to adapt it.

Just four days after the attacks, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the only surviving criminal behind the attacks, was captured in a wild chase that unfolded across television, social media and more. Considering how well Johnson and Tamasy captured Bostonites in the aforementioned boxing drama, they seem like the perfect duo to take this on (except maybe Ben Affleck and Matt Damon). It's likely the film won't get off the ground for a couple years, especially since the book won't be published until 2014, so hopefully enough time will have passed so that this doesn't seem like a opportunistic cash grab.

First Images from OUT OF THE FURNACE Starring Christian Bale

The first images from Scott Cooper's Out of the Furnace have been released. Christian Bale stars as a steelworker who confronts a local criminal (Woody Harrelson) while searching for his missing brother (Casey Affleck), an Iraq War veteran. Cooper says that the Pearl Jam song “Release” was an inspiration when working on the script, and so he showed the film to Eddie Vedder, who decided to collaborate on the soundtrack. The film also stars Sam Shepard, Zoe Saldana, Willem Dafoe, and Forest Whitaker. Into the Furnace opens in limited release on November 27th.

New Set Photo from Brett Ratner’s HERCULES Starring Dwayne Johnson

Last month, Dwayne Johnson tweeted an image of his makeup process and weapon props for Brett Ratner‘s Hercules. Johnson stars as the titular demigod, and the movie is billed as a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist. Johnson how now tweeted another photo from the set saying, “Our HERCULES set created by award winning designer Jean-Vincent Puzos w/ great detail. I sit in awe.” The film also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolso Berdal, Askel Hennie, and Reece Ritchie. Hercules opens on July 25, 2014.

First Official Poster for Spike Lee's OLDBOY Starring Josh Brolin

FilmDistrict has released the first official poster for Spike Lee's US remake of Oldboy. The film follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

A couple fun facts about this poster: the title is in Brolin’s handwriting based on the letters he writes to his daughter while in captivity. More interesting is that this image is an actual shot from the movie, not a composite. The film stars Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen, James Ransone and Samuel L. Jackson. Oldboy opens October 25th.

PACIFIC RIM Cancels the Apocalypse With One Last Trailer

Pacific-Rim-Rinko-0707-Dragonlord.jpg

In the run-up to the film’s imminent release, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have definitely upped the ante when it comes to promotional materials. Posters highlighting individual Jaegers and Kaiju, extensive featurettes, and even oddball viral videos have popped up in recent days. With a just a few days left until Pacific Rim’s stateside premiere, Legendary and director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth) have shared the final trailer for the film. Featuring both expanded characterization and even more massive robot-on-monster battles, this preview does its best to sell Pacific Rim as both contemplative and action-saturated.

Warner Bros.’ current hype blitz for Pacific Rim betrays a certain nervousness about its wide box office appeal. It’s uncertain whether this trailer (or any of the materials recently released) will help bring in general audiences. Let's hope that the film can overcome its inherent riskiness and do better than current hand-wringing expectations. Pacific Rim opens on July 12.

Pacific Rim currently has a 79% score in Rotten Tomatoes from a total of 29 critics. Click HERE to read some of the early reviews.

THE WOLVERINE First Clip Featuring Extended Train Fight Scene

The-Wolverine-Train-Scene-Dragonlord.jpg

20th Century Fox has released the first clip from James Mangold's The Wolverine featuring an extended train fight scene. The clip proves that having three retractable, nine-inch blades of indestructible metal between your knuckles can have many a practical application beyond just slicing jugulars. Those six mega-knives can be used in a variety of inventive ways. They can, for example, be used for stability in the event that you ever find yourself in a battle with a bunch of Japanese gangsters on the exterior of a bullet train barreling through metro Tokyo at 200 miles per hour. Starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and Brian Tee, The Wolverine hits theaters on July 26.

Synopsis: Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.

Pacific Rim looks hypeeeeeeeeeeeee

I'm glad they're trying to make Chucky scary again (the original Child's Play scared the shit out of me as a kid), but his new design just looks... off. He looks like a female doll who's had too much botox. And the use of CGI definitely sucks.

Two More Villains Revealed for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Lee-Pace-Ronan-the-Accuser-Dragonlord.jpg

Director James Gunn has assembled an incredible cast for his space adventure pic Guardians of the Galaxy, which includes Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), John C. Reilly (Rohmann Dey), and Glenn Glose (Nova Corps leader). Most of the roles have been confirmed except for Pace and Gillan. When Pace signed on for the film, it was reported he would play the villain. A few weeks back, JoBlo revealed that the main villain for the film would be Ronan the Accuser. Today, Den of Geek has confirmed what many have long suspected that Pace is playing Ronan the Accuser.

As for Gillan, she was rumored to play Angela, the sword-wielding bounty hunter from the Spawn comic book. Den of Geek has now debunked that rumor and revealed that the Doctor Who star will in fact play Nebula. For those unfamiliar with the character, Nebula is an evil space pirate who is the granddaughter of Thanos. Knowing that the Mad Titan will play a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nebula makes more sense than Angela. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is currently filming in London and is set to open August 1, 2014.

First Glimpse of GODZILLA Heading to San Diego Comic Con!

A first glimpse of Godzilla has been spotted in San Diego leading up to the San Diego Comic-Con event! This first glimpse comes to us in the form of a mural on the side of a building in downtown San Diego. The photo below was taken today by @mynameiscedric on Twitter and looks to be Godzilla's head, breaking through the side of the building - specifically his red eye. From this pic, it clearly looks like Godzilla is going to look pretty terrifying and badass. Legendary's work on Pacific Rim has been stellar so far, so expect a top quality Godzilla film next year.

Update: July 9, 2013

DUMB AND DUMBER TO to Begin Filming in September

140hlyb.jpg

After a string of flops, the Farrelly Brothers‘ will return to one of their most popular films by finally going ahead with Dumb and Dumber To. The sequel has had its ups and downs, especially with Jim Carrey’s frustration with Warner Bros. letting the project linger in development hell. Universal eventually picked up the rights, Carrey and co-star Jeff Daniels will return, and on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Daniels said they’re scheduled to start filming in September.

As it was previously reported, the movie is on track for a summer 2014 release, which would mark the 20th anniversary of the original’s release. “I’ve seen the script. It’s hysterical,” Daniels told Fallon. “We’re middle-aged, we’re not pretending we aren’t. We’re middle-aged and we’re still that stupid.”
