Sarah Polley to Adapt Classic Tale LITTLE WOMEN for Sony
Sony is planning a remake of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women and is in talks with Sarah Polley to adapt the classic tale. Polley directed and wrote Stories We Tell (2012) as well as Take This Waltz (2011). The period drama, which follows four sisters -- Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March -- growing up in post-Civil War America, was originally published in two separate volumes in 1868 and 1869.
Pascal, who is stepping down from her post as co-chairman of Sony in light of the hacking scandal, will produce the Little Women remake with Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord. Pascal is transitioning into a producer role and will also work on Sony's new Spider-Man franchise and Ghostbusters films.
Sony had previously considered making a remake of Little Women in 2013. Other movie adaptations of Alcott's book include include the 1933 version starring starring Katharine Hepburn and Joan Bennett, the 1949 film directed by Mervyn LeRoy and the 1994 version starring Winona Ryder, Claire Danes and Kirsten Dunst.
THE HUNTSMAN Adds Three British Actors as the Dwarves
Universal's The Huntsman has cast three British actors, Rob Brydon (Cinderella), Alexandra Roach (Cuban Fury) and Sheridan Smith (Quartet), as dwarves alongside Nick Frost, who is reprising his role as Nion from Snow White and the Huntsman.
Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are reprising their roles as the Huntsman and Ravenna, respectively. Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain have joined the film, which returns to the world of Snow White and the Huntsman, but presents a new chapter of the story, focusing on the Huntsman and Ravenna's lives before the arrival of Snow White.
Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will direct The Huntsman from a script by Frank Darabont, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos. The Huntsman is set for release on April 22, 2016.
First Trailer for BARELY LETHAL Starring Hailee Steinfeld
The first international trailer for Barely Lethal has landed online. Here’s a slightly different spin on the “deadly operative just wants to lead a simple life” trope. Director Kyle Newman‘s Barely Lethal stars Hailee Steinfeld as a teenager who’s been trained since childhood to be an assassin. Kind of like Hit-Girl, or Hanna, or Marvel’s Black Widows. Only she decides she wants out so she can become a high schooler instead.
As always happens in these types of movies, though, she discovers that leaving her old life behind isn’t as easy as she’d hoped. Among those on her tail are Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Alba, and Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner. Game of Thrones fans who’ve been waiting for Sansa to follow Arya’s footsteps — or X-Men fans curious about the new Jean Grey — should be pleased to see Turner kicking some ass.
Barely Lethal doesn’t yet have a release date, though there is some progress being made on that front. It’s currently appealing its R rating, and A24 and DirecTV are reportedly looking to put it in theaters and on DirecTV next month.
First Footage from the Live-Action ATTACK ON TITAN Movie
A Japanese television program has broadcast the first look at footage from the Attack On Titan live-action films. Come see the giant humanoid creatures that go around scooping up humans and eating them. The two Attack On Titan live-action films will arrive in Japanese theaters this summer.
Attack On Titan began in 2009 as manga and then branched out into light novels, animes, video games. The manga and anime have become a commercial success, receiving critical acclaim for its atmosphere and story. Although it also gained fame in neighboring Asian countries, the series' themes have been a subject of controversy.
In December 2012, it was reported that Tetsuya Nakashima has left his position as director of the live-action film. According to film distributor Toho, Nakashima had considerable creative differences on the scriptwriting and other matters. In December 2013 Shinji Higuchi was revealed to be directing, and would also be responsible for special effects. Yūsuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) and critic/subculture expert Tomohiro Machiyama will be scripting the movie with series creator Isayama.
[Update with official trailer. The two Attack on Titan movies will open in Japan in August 1st and September 19th.]
This statement blows my mind. I have a friend who couldn't get into it because of all the characters screaming and bugging out early on, haha :icon_chee, but still.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Produce and Star in FRAGGLE ROCK
Fraggle Rock, the long-in-the-works adaptation of the Jim Henson 1980s puppet TV show, is getting a shot in the arm with the help of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The actor has come aboard to star in and produce the feature adaptation. He joins New Regency and The Henson Co., who also are producing.
Rock was a Canadian series that became a hit internationally (it played on HBO in the U.S.). It followed the adventures of a group of cave-dwelling puppet creatures called Fraggles. In their world was a race of small, industrious creatures named Doozers, who lived in the caves, as well as the Gorgs, furry giants who looked at Fraggles as nuisances.
Regency initially partnered with Ivan Reitman’s The Montecito Picture Co. to produce the adaptation, hiring Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian to write the script, as well as John Stevenson (the co-director of Kung Fu Panda) to direct. Gordon-Levitt’s boarding indicates the project is getting a fresh start, and a new director and writers will be hired.
First Trailer for the John Green Adaptation PAPER TOWNS
The Fault in Our Stars author John Green is back this summer with Paper Towns, a somewhat lighter tale of teen romance. Fox has released the first trailer for Paper Towns online. It’s the story of a teenager (Nat Wolff) whose boring life is irrevocably changed by a quirky, adventurous, wildly romantic peer (Cara Delevingne). The two films even share the same screenwriters, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Their specialty seems to be young love, as they also wrote The Spectacular Now and (500) Days of Summer. Paper Towns hits theaters July 24, 2015. Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) directed. The songs used in the trailer, if you’re wondering, are “To the Top” by Twin Shadows and “Smile” by Mikky Ekko.
Synopsis: Adapted from the bestselling novel by author John Green (“The Fault in Our Stars”, Paper Towns is a coming-of-age story centering on Quentin and his enigmatic neighbor Margo, who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears — leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. The search leads Quentin and his quick-witted friends on an exhilarating adventure that is equal parts hilarious and moving. Ultimately, to track down Margo, Quentin must find a deeper understanding of true friendship — and true love.
Trailer for THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED Starring Ed Skrein
Jason Statham is no longer The Transporter, and instead the franchise is going in a new direction with Ed Skrein as Frank Martin, the most skilled man in his dangerous profession, in The Transporter Refueled. Skrein is doing his best gruff, intimidating voice, but it comes off as a weak impersonation of Statham. All the ridiculous action is here, but without Statham, this just feels like a terrible straight-to-DVD sequel. Directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions), the film also stars Ray Stevenson and Gabriella Wright. The Transporter Refueled opens on June 19th.
Synopsis: The producers of Lucy and the Taken trilogy bring you the next adrenaline-fueled installment of The Transporter series, The Transporter Refueled, starring newcomer Ed Skrein as Frank Martin, the most highly-skilled transporter money can buy. The stakes are greater and technology better, but the same three simple rules apply: never change the deal, no names and never open the package.
When Frank is hired by cunning femme fatale Anna and her three stunning sidekicks, he quickly discovers he
