RefPOVB.jpg

Isabela Moner will soon be saying "Vamos!" for Paramount. The Transformers: The Last Knight actress has been tapped to play Dora the Explorer for the studio's live-action feature based on the character from the popular Nickelodeon TV series.

The Dora the Explorer movie will follow a teenage Dora — accompanied by her best friend Boots the monkey and her cousin Diego — on (you guessed it) an adventure. James Bobin will direct from a screenplay by Nick Stoller, the writer-director behind films including The Muppetsand Neighbors, andDanielle Sanchez-Witzel. The movie hails from Paramount's new Paramount Players division.

"We are thrilled to have found our Dora in Isabela,” said Brian Robbins, president of Paramount Players. “Dora has long been a celebrated, strong heroine in animated television, and like Dora, Isabela has an incredible spirit and is an advocate for positive values. With our partners at Nickelodeon, we look forward to continuing Dora’s story for generations to come.”

Added Moner: “I’m honored and excited to bring Dora to life. I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model — she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl. I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure!”

Dora the Explorer will shoot in Queensland, Australia, and is scheduled for release Aug. 2, 2019.

Moner will also star in the studio's upcoming family comedy Instant Family, alongside Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter Reteaming for BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC

dJzhXAx.jpg

It's official: Wyld Stallyns are reforming. Following 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and 1991's Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, The Hollywood Reporter can reveal that a much-discussed third Bill & Ted installment — Bill & Ted Face the Music — is now firmly in the works some 27 years later. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are set to reprise their iconic roles as time-traveling metalheads "Ted" Theodore Logan and "Bill" S. Preston Esq.

Original creators Chris Matheson (Imagine That) and Ed Solomon (Men in Black, Mosaic, Now You See Me) have penned the script, with Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Red 2, Fun With Dick and Jane) confirmed to direct. Scott Kroopf (Limitless) will produce together with Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce of Hammerstone Studios, with Steven Soderbergh serving as an executive producer alongside Scott Fischer, John Ryan Jr. and John Santilli.

MGM owns the rights to the film and will release it in the U.S. under its Orion Pictures banner. Bloom is handling international sales, which commenced in Cannes where the project is likely to be one of the buzziest films in the market. Endeavor Content negotiated the deal.

Currently in preproduction, Bill & Ted Face the Music will see the duo long past their days as time-traveling teenagers and now weighed down by middle age and the responsibilities of family. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, they find much, much more than just a song.

“We couldn't be more excited to get the whole band back together again," said Reeves and Winter. "Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we've got a dream team!"

Bloom's Alex Walton said: “Fans of Bill and Ted have been waiting for Reeves and Winter to reunite since their last Bogus Journey in 1991. This is excellent!”

Solomon and Matheson reportedly began working on a script in 2010, with both Reeves and Winter indicating in various interviews over the years that they were interested in making the film happen.

In 2017, Reeves told BBC talk show host Graham Norton that the film had been written and the story would see the duo "supposed to write a song to save the world and they haven’t done that. The pressure of having to save the world, their marriages are falling apart, their kids are kind of mad at them, and then someone comes from the future and tells them if they don’t write the song it’s just not the world, it’s the universe."

Earlier this year, Solomon described the hold-up to Entertainment Weekly, saying: "We’ve been to the altar a few times. We get rejected right about the ‘now you may kiss the bride’ part of it.”

Four-Time Oscar Nominee Annette Bening Joins the Cast of CAPTAIN MARVEL

Zl0ljj9.jpg

Annette Bening is signing on for her first comic book movie. The four-time Oscar nominee is joining Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios’ first female-led feature film.

Mississippi Grind directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are helming the movie, which is currently in production in and around Los Angeles. (The project also will shoot in Louisiana.)

Larson toplines the pic as Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA fuses with that of an alien, sending her headlong into an intergalactic adventure. The character had a major tease in Avengers: Infinity War, although the solo movie is set in the 1990s.

The cast already includes Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn and Gemma Chan, as well as Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, with the latter pair reprising their characters from 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

Details on Bening’s character are being kept hidden deep in the Kree Empire, but "scientist" is said to be in her job description.

Bening eschews most studio movies, let alone those with caped crusaders and masked marvels. She most recently starred in the period drama Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool and toplines The Seagull, an adaptation of the Anton Chekhov play that also counts Saoirse Ronan and Elisabeth Moss in its cast, which is set to bow Friday.

G.I. Joe's SNAKE EYES Gets a Solo Movie with Evan Spiliotopoulos to Pen Script

BLE9sGD.jpg

Popular G.I. Joe character Snake Eyes is getting his own movie. Paramount Pictures has thrown a Joe spinoff movie featuring the commando into development, with Evan Spiliotopoulos, the writer of Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter’s War, in talks to pen the script.

Snake Eyes is the silent ninja commando that first appeared in the 1980s as part of Hasbro and Marvel Comics’ relaunch of the toyline, dubbed G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero.

The character, who dressed in all black, never revealed his face, and never spoke, stood apart from the rest of the military anti-terrorist group and quickly established himself as the most popular. He had a special relationship with Scarlett, for a while the team’s only female member, and sometimes carried out solo missions with his pet wolf, Timber. His archenemy is Storm Shadow, a ninja who is also his blood brother.

Paramount has made two Joe movies, 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and 2013’s G.I Joe: Retaliation, with acrobatic actor Ray Park playing the lead character in both movies.

The studio and Hasbro have been looking to reboot the franchise and in the last few years has assembled writers rooms to generate movie ideas.

Spiliotopoulos got his start in animation, working on Disney’s straight to animation movies before nabbing big-feature fantasy gigs. The writer is on an upswing and earlier this week came on board to pen the sequel to Netflix’s fantasy cop movie, Bright.

Dan Stevens Joins Natalie Portman in Director Noah Hawley for PALE BLUE DOT

jtSjZcF.jpg

Dan Stevens will reteam with his Legion creator-showrunner Noah Hawley for the Fox Searchlight drama Pale Blue Dot. The Beauty and the Beast star will join Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm and Zazie Beetz in the astronaut story that Hawley is set to direct.

Pale Blue Dot centers on a married astronaut (Portman) who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.

Hamm is playing the fellow astronaut, while Beetz is the other point in the love triangle, the trainee. Stevens will portray Portman's husband.

Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi wrote the script for the feature, which was inspired by a true-life astronaut love triangle in which a female mission specialist tried to kidnap a rival in 2007.

Stevens is in the midst of his second season on Legion, Hawley's X-Men-based series on FX. He has Gareth Evans' Netflix drama Apostle in the can for a possible release later this year and this week joined Elisabeth Moss, Amber Heard and Cara Delevigne in the punk rock drama Her Smell.

Timothy Olyphant is in talks to star opposite Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Burt Reynolds is in talks to star in the film, with Tim Roth, Kurt Russell and Michael Madsen, who all starred in Tarantino's Hateful Eight, in talks to play smaller or cameo-style roles.

The movie, set in Los Angeles in 1969, follows Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), a former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt), who are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor — Sharon Tate.

Tarantino wrote the movie and will produce. Sony has dated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for a worldwide release Aug. 9, 2019.

Olyphant currently stars in the Netflix comedy Santa Clarita Diet, which just got renewed for a third season. Reynolds is a Hollywood icon best known for his work on The Longest Yard, Smokey and the Bandit and Boogie Nights.

At this year's CinemaCon, Tarantino promised that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is "probably the closest to Pulp Fiction that I have done." He added, "Sony and myself will be coming to the theaters with the most exciting star dynamic since Paul Newman and Robert Redford."

ZOMBIELAND 2 in the Works for 2019 with Original Cast and Writers Returning

x22rxFo.png

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have become an in-demand screenwriting duo as of late. In addition to writing 2016’s bawdy smash Deadpool and (along with co-writer Ryan Reynolds) penning this weekend’s Deadpool 2, they’re currently working on Michael Bay’s Six Underground, board-game adaptation Clue, the Chris Pratt vehicle Cowboy Ninja Viking (their original script for it has mostly gone by the wayside, but they’re still producing), and YouTube Red series Wayne. But just ten years ago, they were unknowns in Hollywood — that is, until a little movie called Zombieland came along.

Combining zombie action, intelligent comedy, quirky romance, and an extended Bill Murray cameo, the film — written by the pair and directed by Ruben Fleischer — was a surprise smash, earning $102.4 million on a $23.6 million budget. It starred Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as common folks on the run in a post-apocalyptic America, teaming up with a crazed survivalist played by Woody Harrelson. It left the door open for a sequel, one that fans — and cast members — have clamored for ever since. And, according to Reese and Wernick, it looks like they might not have to wait much longer.

“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland,” Wernick tells Vulture. “Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2.” Though he hedged with that “may be,” it seems like it’s not so far from a “will be.” “The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release,” Wernick added — then tossed in even more good news for devotees: “With the original cast, by the way.”

They were mum beyond that, and say they have details they can’t give out just yet, but that it’s all positive. “We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment,” Wernick added, “but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.” Break out the Twinkies.

Jake Gyllenhaal in Talks to Play Mysterio in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to bring a little mystery to the Spider-Man universe.

The actor is in talks to play the classic Marvel villain Mysterio in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964. A special effects expert, Quentin Beck used his talents to create elaborate illusions to commit crimes and to fight Spider-Man.

Tom Holland starred as the Marvel hero in Spider-Man: Homecomingand recently appeared in Avengers: Infinity War. Jon Watts is returning to direct the sequel to Homecoming, which earned $880 million worldwide. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, two of the screenwriters behind the first movie, are back as well.

Gyllenhaal has an interesting history with Spider-Man. Original Spider-Man star Toby Maguire injured his back while shooting Seabiscuit in between Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Gyllenhaal was briefly considered to take over the role if Maguire could not resume his duties. Maguire was able to return to work, and the filmmakers put a joke about Spider-Man hurting his back into the sequel.

Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is set for July 5, 2019.

Halle Berry Joins Keanu Reeves in Chad Stahelski's JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3

Halle Berry has signed on to star opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 3, the latest installment of Liongate’s action movie series.

Chad Stahelski, who has overseen the mayhem in the first two movies, is back behind the camera of Chapter 3.

The story picks up after the events of Chapter 2, which sees Wick, a former assassin who tried and failed to live the quiet life, with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

Berry’s character details are being kept secret but sources say she will not be the film’s villain.

Derek Kolstad, writing team Chris Collins and Marc Abrams and Shay Hatten penned the script. Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are producing in association with 87Eleven Productions.

Berry last co-starred in comic book action movie The Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
