Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in Quentin Tarantino's Charles Manson Movie

1ec4v6o.jpg

Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarantino may be reuniting for the director's upcoming Charles Manson movie. The actor is in talks to star in the ninth film from the director, after having previously worked together on 2012's Django Unchained.

While exact plot details are being kept under wraps, the movie has been described as a 1969-set ensemble piece that in some way involves Manson and the murder of Sharon Tate.

Several big name stars are still circling the secretive project, with Margot Robbie and Tom Cruise being eyed for big roles.

After a heated bidding war, Sony picked up the rights to the feature back in November, and have set an Aug. 9, 2019 release date. That day also marks the 50th anniversary of the murders of Tate and her friends by the followers of Manson.

DiCaprio hasn't been seen on the big screen since his Oscar-winning turn in The Revenant, but has lined up numerous high-profile projects, including a reunion with longtime collaborator Martin Scorsese for a Teddy Roosevelt biopic at Paramount.

DiCaprio was terrific in Django- this is very cool to hear.

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 Director, New Antagonist, Returning Cast, Start Date Revealed

QnO3dXR.png

Keanu Reeves' career seems to be full of iconic roles. Some know him as Ted “Theodore” Logan; some as Johnny Utah; some as Neo. Recently, however, Reeves is known for his work as bad ass John Wick and That Hashtag Show has the scoop on what to expect from the third installment in the series.

First of all, Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the first film before going solo on the second, is now officially on board for the third film. The film is expected to begin principal photography on March 1st in New York City with additional filming potentially taking place in Spain and Russia!

John Wick 3 will feature a few familiar faces with Cassian (Common) and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and Ares (Ruby Rose) set to return but the film is going to introduce some new faces as well, and we know who one of them will be. The film’s main antagonist, said to be the head of a Japanese crime syndicate, will be played Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, Avengers 4). John Wick 3 will represent a reunion for Reeves and Sanada as the pair starred together in the 2013 film 47 Ronin.

The site says that there is a yet to be cast female role opposite Reeves. The studio is searching for an actress in her late 20s to early 40s and is open to diverse casting. While it's been said that Reeves is keen to bring actress Tilda Swinton into the John Wick franchise, this may not be that role.

With filming set to begin in just over a month, expect to hear quite a bit more on the film over the coming months. John Wick 3 is set to debut in theaters May 17, 2019

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to Direct Disney's Live-Action THE SWORD IN THE STONE

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, perhaps best known for directing the zombie thriller 28 Weeks Later, is in negotiations to helm The Sword in the Stone, Disney's live-action reimagining of the studio's 1963 animated fantasy.

Bryan Cogman, a writer-producer on HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, wrote the script for the project, which is being produced by Brigham Taylor (The Jungle Book).

Stone was the final movie released by the studio before Walt Disney’s death; it takes a lighthearted view of the legend of King Arthur, focusing on the young Arthur being mentored by the magician Merlin.

It was loosely based on T.H. White’s novel of the same name, which later became part of White’s multibook Arthurian fantasy, The Once and Future King.

Stone is the second Arthurian project the studio is developing as it's also working on The Merlin Saga, with Ridley Scott circling the tale of the powerful wizard's rise.

Fresnadillo’s hiring points to the direction in which the remake will head. The filmmaker is known for his dark tones and directed the 2011 horror movie Intruders as well as the pilots for USA thriller Falling Water and CBS’ end-of-the-world drama Salvation.

Danny Strong to Write Disney's Remake of the Beloved Musical OLIVER!

Game Change and The Butler screenwriter Danny Strong has been tapped to script a Disney remake of the beloved musical Oliver! which has Thomas Kail, a Tony winner for Hamilton, directing.

Marc Platt (La La Land) and Cube Vision’s Jeff Kwatinetz and Ice Cube (Straight Outta Compton) are producing for the Walt Disney Co. While publicists came forth saying that it was a musical version of a public domain title Oliver Twist, all those who Deadline spoke with said, ‘it’s basically a remake of Oliver!

Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist chronicles the journey of an orphan boy who escapes the harsh conditions of a workhouse and falls in with a group of young thieves overseen by the villainous :eek::eek:in — “the receiver of stolen goods” — who will be portrayed by Ice Cube.

Oliver! is the beloved musical of both stage and screen based on Lionel Bart’s take on the Dickens novel as will the Disney movie. The soundtrack became a bestseller with favorites as “Who Will Buy?,” “Consider Yourself” and “I’d Do Anything.” The original film won four Academy Awards including for Best Picture and Best Director. Oliver! debuted in London in 1960 before moving to Broadway where it won a Tony in 1963 for Best Original Score.

The 1968 film adaptation directed by Carol Reed and starring Mark Lester, Oliver Reed and Jack Wild, won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director and for its soundtrack. The re-imagined Oliver! features a cross-genre soundtrack that will include hip-hop.

Strong, who began his career as a character actor on the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gilmore Girls, burst onto the screenwriting scene with 2008’s award-winning HBO film Recount, then garnered an Emmy for 2012’s Game Change and followed that with 2013’s The Butler directed by Lee Daniels. He co-wrote the final two Hunger Games movies, and, with Daniels, co-created the Emmy-winning musical drama Empire for Fox.

Last year he made his directorial debut with Rebel in the Rye, the J.D. Salinger biopic which he also wrote, and that premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. A self-confessed “musical theatre nerd,” Strong has recently finished a new book for Chess, the 1988 Tim Rice/ABBA London hit, which will run February 14-18 at the Kennedy Center.

Disney-Pixar Hires Stephanie Folsom to Write the Script for TOY STORY 4

Toy Story 4 has found its writer. Stephany Folsom, who recently had a feud with Marvel after being denied a "Story by" credit on Thor: Ragnarok, has been tapped to write the script for the upcoming fourth installment of the long-running Pixar franchise, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Rashida Jones was initially attached as writer for the film, along with her writing partner Will McCormack, but she left the project last year. It was reported that Jones stepped away from the project early on after an unwanted advance from Pixar head John Lasseter, who took a leave of absence following claims of sexual harassment and misconduct, but Jones issued a statement to The New York Times, saying, "We did not leave Pixar because of unwanted advances. ... We parted ways because of creative and, more importantly, philosophical differences." Jones and McCormack went on to say that Pixar has a "a culture where women and people of color do not have an equal creative voice."

For Folsom, the role as writer on Toy Story 4 is her first major credit. She appeared on The Black List in 2013 for her original screenplay 1969: A Space Odyssey, or How Kubrick Learned to Stop Worrying and Land on the Moon.

Weinstein Co. Pulls Three Upcoming Films From Release Schedule

The Weinstein Co. has pulled three films from its release schedule: The War With Grandpa, Mary Magdalene and The Upside.

The War With Grandpa, which stars Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman and Jane Seymour, tells the story of a young boy who battles his grandfather when he is forced to share a room with him. It was slated for release on Feb. 23. The film is no stranger to release-date change, having originally been scheduled for April 21, 2017, before being pushed to October and then to the February date. The family comedy also shifted production last-minute from Canada to Georgia back in March 2017.

Mary Magdalene, the Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix starrer that follows the eponymous biblical figure, was scheduled for release on March 30, after being pushed back from a Nov. 24, 2017, date.

The Upside, meanwhile, was on the calendar for a March 9 release. The comedy stars Nicole Kidman, Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston and is the English-language remake of the 2011 French hit comedy The Intouchables.

Since October, The New York Times' and The New Yorker's exposés charging TWC co-founder Harvey Weinstein with decades' worth of sexual assault and harassment charges have left the future of the company in question. Weinstein was terminated from TWC, although he remains a shareholder.

TWC already previously postponed several upcoming releases, such as the period drama The Current War, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
