First Full Trailer for THE EQUALIZER Starring Denzel Washington

The-Equalizer-Chloe-Moretz-061214-Dragonlord.jpg

Sony Pictures has released the full-length The Equalizer trailer for director Antoine Fuqua’s (Olympus Has Fallen) adaptation of the 1980s TV series of the same name. Denzel Washington leads the dramatic action-thriller as a former black ops commando who comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl (Chloe Grace Moretz). Soon thereafter, things go south and he finds himself squaring off against violent Russian gangsters. The film finds Washington reuniting with his Training Day director in Fuqua, and while it’s certainly a "badass" role, it's encouraging by how introspective the whole thing feels. Hopefully Fuqua and Washington are able to dig a bit deeper while also delivering the action thrills that audiences expect. The film also stars Melissa Leo, Martin Csokas, Haley Bennett, David Harbour, and Bill Pullman. The Equalizer opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on September 26.

Synopsis: In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chlo

Harrison Ford has been injured on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. The actor hurt his ankle on Thursday and was transported to a local hospital. "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII. He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Trailer for LIBERTADOR Starring Edgar Ramirez as Simon Bolivar

Libertador-Edgar-Ramirez-Dragonlord.jpg

Cohen Media Group has debuted the trailer for Alberto Arvelo's Libertador, also known as The Liberator, starring Edgar Ramirez as Simon Bolivar, the Latin American revolutionary from the late 1700s and early 1800s. This sweeping and majestic biopic tells the story of how he liberated and helped Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia gain independence from the Spanish Empire. In addition to Ramirez, Libertador also stars Maria Valverde, Danny Huston, Imanol Arias, and Gary Lewis. The performances look powerful, but the cinematography looks exceptional. This might be worth watching.

The Liberator, or Libertador in Spanish, is directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Alberto Arvelo Mendoza of a few films previously including Habana, Havana and To Play and to Fight. The screenplay was written by Timothy J. Sexton. While Ramirez

GAME OF THRONES Writer to Pen MAGIC: THE GATHERING Script

Magic-the-Gathering-061214-Dragonlord.jpg

It was inevitable that the writers and directors of HBO’s staggeringly good Game Of Thrones would begin taking over the fantasy realm in features. 20th Century Fox has set Bryan Cogman, a producer, story editor and writer on the HBO drama, to script a potential franchise movie out of the fantasy card game Magic The Gathering. It will be produced by Hasbro and Fox-based producer Simon Kinberg.

Fox acquired the rights last January on Magic The Gathering, a game that was hatched in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. It became a raging geek success and hatched a collectible-trading-card-game movement. There are creatures, wizards and magic spells and players use all of them to defeat each other. Hasbro bought the company in 1999. When they have time, the Game of Throne guys are getting more and more feature jobs; Alan Taylor directed Thor 2 and is now helming the first in the Terminator trilogy.

Watch the Full Trailer for Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR

Interstellar-Poster-051614-Dragonlord.jpg

Paramount Pictures has released a new Interstellar trailer for director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi drama. The film stars Matthew McConaughey and revolves around a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole “to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.” The genesis of Interstellar's story was a lecture given by project consultant and astrophysicist Kip Thorne, which suggested time travel as being possible through usage of a wormhole. Even though most of the visual effects are still in development, it's still surprising at how much focus was on the emotional side of the film.

TheWrap's Jeff Sneider has confirmed that Jessica Chastain will play the grown-up version of Mackenzie Foy in the film (note their red hair and the fact that Chastain is wearing the same coat that McConaughey does earlier in the teaser) while Ellen Burstyn plays the much-older version of the same character. Same goes for Timoth

Michelle Monaghan Joins Adam Sandler in Chris Columbus' PIXELS

Michelle-Monaghan-Pixels-Dragonlord.jpg

Michelle Monaghan, coming off a hot turn in HBO's True Detective, will play the female lead in Pixels, Sony's Adam Sandler adventure movie to be directed by Chris Columbus. The tentpole, which the studio just greenlit and is slated for a summer 2015 release, is in full-on casting mode, with Peter Dinklage also closing his deal to join the cast, which already includes Kevin James and Josh Gad. The project will likely begin shooting in Toronto in June.

Based on an Internet short from 2010, the feature, written by Tim Herlihy and Tim Dowling, will tell what happens when aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them. They begin a war on the human race, using the games as models for their various assaults. The U.S. president (James) turns to his childhood best friend to lead a team of old-school arcaders to save the planet.

Sandler portrays a former champion, now leading a miserable life as a home theater installer, while Gad is a conspiracy-theory-obsessed genius with really bad social skills. Dinklage will be Sandler's brash former video game-playing nemesis. Monaghan will play a weapons developer for the military and love interest for Sandler.

GODZILLA Director Gareth Edwards to Helm STAR WARS Spinoff

Gareth-Edwards-Star-Wars-Spinoff-Dragonlord.jpg

Press Release: In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. Gareth Edwards will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.

Gareth Edwards blazed into the filmmaking forefront with his acclaimed work on Monsters, a film he wrote, directed and served on as cinematographer and visual effects artist. The skill and vision readily apparent in Monsters earned him the high-profile spot directing this year's smash hit Godzilla.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm, said Edwards.

Gary Whittas screenwriting credits include 2010s The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. He is also well known as a journalist and editor in the video game industry, as well as part of the BAFTA award-winning team on Telltale Games adaptation of The Walking Dead.

Whitta states, "From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, Star Wars has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me,so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth, is literally a dream come true. I'm still pinching myself."

David Fincher Exits Steve Jobs Biopic After $10 Million Fee Fight

David-Fincher-Steve-Jobs-022614b-Dragonlord.jpg

Sony Pictures is looking to replace David Fincher as director of its highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie due to his aggressive demands for compensation and control, according to several sources. Fincher is said to be seeking a hefty $10 million up front in fees, as well as control over marketing, in negotiations with the studio. Sony allowed him considerable input into the marketing of the 2011 film The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, including honoring his request to use the tagline "The feel bad movie of Christmas" in its campaign.

A source says Fincher also had the studio create metal, razor-blade-shaped one-sheet materials for the film that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce but were not suitable for display in theaters.

A source with ties to the studio says Fincher potentially could re-enter negotiations but that the fee he is seeking is “ridiculous,” adding, “You’re not doing Transformers here. You’re not doing Captain America. This is quality — it’s not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front.”

The Jobs movie, based on Walter Isaacson's acclaimed best-selling biography Steve Jobs, would have reunited the team behind The Social Network, including producer Scott Rudin, writer Aaron Sorkin and Fincher. Fincher had wanted Christian Bale to star in the Jobs film, though the actor is not attached to the project.
