Movies Movie News and Notes

Set in Ireland during the Great Famine, the drama follows an Irish Ranger who has been fighting for the British Army abroad, as he abandons his post to reunite with his family. Despite experiencing the horrors of war, he is shocked by the famine's destruction of his homeland and the brutalization of his people and his family.

This looks really good. Quoting so I can remember the name of the movie!

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is due in theaters on July 5, 2019, and features Tom Holland back as the teenage webslinger.

The film, which introduces Jake Gyllenhaal as the villainous Mysterio, will also be the first solo Spider-Man film to take the hero out of his native New York City. Jon Watts is returning as director.

And since its release comes two months after the still-untitled “Avengers 4,” expect the new Spidey film to follow the storyline set up in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero mashup.

Remy is currently a series regular on the Australian series “Harrow.” Previously, he was one of the stars of the Netflix series “Marco Polo.’ He will also be seen in Warner Brothers romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians,” in movie theaters Wednesday.

Remy was born and raised in Australia and is of Chinese, Malaysian and English nationality. He broke out in the Aussie mini-series “Better Man” opposite David Wenham, Claudia Karvan, Bryan Brown, and Jordan Rodrigues. His performance garnered a nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama at the 2014 AACTA Awards and the Most Outstanding Newcomer accolade at the 2014 Logie Awards.

"A vivid portrayal of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil, Roma follows a young domestic worker Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio) from Mixteco heritage descent and her co-worker Adela (Nancy García), also Mixteca, who work for a small family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma. Mother of four, Sofia (Marina de Tavira), copes with the extended absence of her husband, Cleo faces her own devastating news that threatens to distract her from caring for Sofia’s children, whom she loves as her own. While trying to construct a new sense of love and solidarity in a context of a social hierarchy where class and race are perversely intertwined, Cleo and Sofia quietly wrestle with changes infiltrating the family home in a country facing confrontation between a government-backed militia and student demonstrators."

I am SO sick of seeing 'The Happy Times Murders' trailer infront of every video on YouTube.

"Sesame Street is suing the studio to prevent you from seeing this movie!"

Oh sure, that sounds feasible. I recall hearing about that months ago and it was resolved early into the movie's production. Fake buzz.

This movie looks like it'll be as humorous as the rest of Melissa McCarthy's movies.

Variety is reporting that up-and-coming actress Monica Barbaro (UnREAL; Splitting Up Together) has joined the cast of Paramount's Top Gun: Maverick as a fighter pilot and love interest to Miles Teller, who is playing the son of Goose (Anthony Edwards).

Hot on the heels of Kroll's report, Deadline shared their own story that also confirmed the additions of Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), and Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation). McKenzie is playing the daughter of Jennifer Connelly's character, Parnell is playing an admiral, Ellis is playing a pilot, Salahuddin is playing an engineer, and Ramirez is playing a pilot.

The sextet joins a cast headlined by returning 3x Academy Award-nominated superstar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Fallout), who is joined in his latest cinematic adventure by Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Jennifer Connelly (Only The Brave), Miles Teller (Whiplash), and Glen Powell (Set It Up).

Joe Kosinski (Oblivion; Only The Brave; Tron: Legacy) is directing with a script from Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board as a producer alongside Cruise and David Ellison.

While production began at the beginning of June with Cruise filming scenes on a very familiar motorcycle, principal photography is not expected to begin with the entire cast until early next month. Plot details remain under wraps for now, but the film will reportedly be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

Additionally, Collider's Jeff Sneider shared a casting breakdown on Twitter, confirming that Powell is indeed playing a character with the call sign Slayer.
