Nogi was with MMA gloves & "light" strikes. That was fun. I'm tired.

Do you do that often? As someone with very limited grappling experience (me) how much does the addition of strikes change things at a higher level of Bjj / Grappling? I'm guessing quite a bit.
 
We haven't done that often in the past, but I think it's going to be a regular thing for this evening nogi class. Strikes are interesting because you have to be cognizant of putting yourself in positions where you're getting punched. No huge changes for how I grapple, but it adds another dimension. Being on top is usually better, but with strikes, its way more important. I got to spar with a guy who's fighting in Bellator on Saturday, that was also pretty cool..

Good training tonight, worked hard, got tired. Still working on half guard. Also working on triangles - I have a lot of trouble finishing them.

1.5 Hours BJJ

Worked on omoplatas tonight. 1 Hour class followed by 30 minutes of sparring. Felt tired all night. Survived.

1.5 Hours BJJ

Continued to work on omoplatas. 1 Hour of omoplatas, followed by 30 minutes of sparring. Moved better tonight than I expected. Rolled with a purple belt who is my size & started in bottom half. Worked my ass off defending & getting smashed & was able to eventually get half guard & then full guard. Got the cross collar choke from full guard before time went out. Good stuff.

Been awhile since I made it into the gym. Glad I made it in today, felt pretty good. I did a little circuit with the chins, curls & dips. Triceps finisher was on the cable machine - do 10reps, drop the weight, 10 more, drop the weight, etc...

Lots of drilling tonight, really tired. Also drank about a metric shit-ton of alcohol this weekend, so might still be recovering there too. I'm travelling every week for the next 4 weeks, so consistency is gonna be difficult.

Famers Walks

Nice little workout this morning. I liked finishing with Farmers Walks. The gym has a deadlift box thing - I don't know what you call it, but you can load weights on the side & you step in the middle & lift from the sides. I did 3x up & back with 2 45's on each side. No idea what the thing weighs. Probably 60-80 pounds. At any rate, it was fun, I'll be doing those again.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

1 Hour class followed by 30 minutes of sparring. Worked a lot of KOB today. Had a good time training. Got a spinning arm bar from KOB today. I think that's the 1st time I've ever tried it. I'm much more of a grinding, slow grappler.

Farmers Walks - 2x30 yards, 4x45's on the rig

Quick workout today during lunch. Deadlifts felt ok - didn't push it too much, lower back was acting a little weird. Not sure if just sore from the travel, or if it was getting ready to explode. So I did careful singles. 160KG is still the most I've deadlifted in quite a while, so its an improvement. Bench was hard, but minimal complaints from my shoulder, so that's positive as well. Didn't do DB Rows, bi's or tris due to time, and cut the Farmers Walks short due to lack of chalk - hands were sweaty. I'll bring chalk next time.

BJJ - 1.5 Hours

Worked a couple of knee cut variations - one when the guy doesn't block your bicep & then 1 when he does. Worked on 2 submissions (arm bar & americana) once you get the pass. 30 minutes of rolling, worked successful over-under pass in each roll. I'm really liking using a low, heavy pressure over-under pass to deal with all these guys trying to play spider, lasso & DLR variations.

Was sick with the flu for a week, then went to Hawaii for 9 days. Great trip!

Also went to this BOMB Penthouse party on Friday night in Waikiki - drank champagne, danced, watched the fireworks. We were by far the oldest people there, so left early & let the young folks party.
