Just a few weeks ago, ahead of UFC 223, former two-division champion Conor McGregor showed up unannounced at a pre-fight media obligation and allegedly attacked the fighter bus that Khabib Nurmagomedov was on, seemingly in retaliation for a minor incident Nurmagomedov had with McGregor compatriot Artem Lobov earlier in the week. The attack resulted in injury to multiple parties and McGregor was arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony mischief.

When this all happened, McGregor’s greatest foil, Nate Diaz, took the opportunity to poke fun at the situation. But now, on the anniversary of the infamous Strikeforce: Nashville brawl, Diaz wants everyone to know that he and his team were the original progenitors of the the squad-based PR disaster beef, taking to Instagram with a reminder of the time days he and a group of his friends jumped a lone individual on national television.

The Strikeforce: Nashville brawl is one of the most notorious events in MMA history. It came about when Jason Miller jumped into the cage following Jake Shields‘ title defense over Dan Henderson to pursue a rematch with Shields. Miller’s arrival did indeed bring about “Mayhem” when “The Skrap Pack” - Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Gilbert Melendez, Shields, and other Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu members - took umbrage with Miller’s actions and jumped him right there in the cage. The fight was broken up by security and members Henderson’s team but did lead to announcer Gus Johnson famously saying that “Sometimes these things happen in MMA” to the nearly three million viewers watching on CBS. It was an embarrassment to the sport which was still shedding the stigma of “human cock-fighting” that had plagued it for years. Now we know, it was also groundbreaking.

Lol Nate threw 2 weak ass kicks at Mayhem when he was on the ground, and then legit punched Mayhem in the ass. (Watch the video).

Gangsta no.

why the fuck have you capitalised every first letter in the title? Tony? is that you?

Can’t take Shields seriously in the pic, the most un-intimidating guy ever...

Especially when he’s next to Nick

Nate has clearly noticed that Conor vs Khabib is the biggest fight in mma all of a sudden and that sticking up for Conor adds no heat to their rivaly.

Except it’s a fucking lie. Tank did shit like that years before.

Shields is the most unlikely guy ever to stay with them LOL

u aint gangsta nate

the real gangstas are the muh fuckas running the world today through thievery, deception and murder.

Nobody cares about this marijuana guy anymore, everybody wants to see Khabib vs Conor.

Where's the guy who hit Andrew Golata in the head with a walkie talkie after he punched Riddick Bowe in the balls?

I don't know whats worse, that they think they are the first to do something like that or that they are actually proud of it.

So now it’s the cool thing to do?

#Kidlife

Here's an unpopular opinion for you, Mayhem would've beaten Diaz back in 2010

The "ride or die" quote makes Nate seem like the quintessential man child. I love the Diaz bros in the ring but there antics out of it are an embarrassment.

McGregor is just taking points from others who have did similar things before and wound up carving his own path.

If stirring up shit means that you're going to be able to generate income from spending less time in the cage and avoiding damage and injury then he's got things pretty figured out. However like the Diaz Bros you need to come out of self imposed retirement to keep relevant and to avoid becoming a joke. The Diaz Bros remain Gangsta and McGregor remains Notorious.

...It's about time McGregor comes back though, there has to be a healthy balance between antics and actual fighting.
