The thing about Maia is he is a freak when it comes to BJJ. I've heard Frank Mir discuss how badly Maia rapes him on the mat and Frank is a Heavyweight. Maia is one of the only people in the sport that if it goes to the mat, you are screwed. Who else is thought of in that regard? Maybe Werdum gets that sort of respect, but its really weird. There are a ton of competent BJJ practitioners in the UFC, Blackbelts even, but you never think, ok if this hits the mat its over, it "might" be over if what you think. With Maia, going to the mat is likely a death sentence.
