A lot of the links are not necessary. Some are to deleted threads, or threads with videos that were taken down.

Thanks for taking on the task Yeahbee.

hopefully this time I'll be able to keep up with the forum

There are a few very reliable resources out there for proper form on throws and more than a few very questionable ones. Maybe to save from an overwhelming number of links we can provide links to a series or presenter and then let them go through their library whenever they want a reference. Here are my nominees for Judoka who have exemplary form and/or the youtube channel you can look to.

REFERENCE LIBRARY

Judoka - Tadashi Koike
Uploader - zaccheofrancesco (has every one posted)
Best Search - There's not much more out there for Koike Sensei besides these, just search by name and look for your throw,
Koike sensei performed all 67 major throws of the Gokyo No Waza on film, has gorgeous technique, and each one is replayed in super-slow-mo to give you the chance to really see what's going on. My first choice if I just want to see a throw done right.

Example - Harai Goshi

Judoka - Various
Uploader - tambietem (has every one posted)
Best Search - Search by tambietem, doesn't have a whole lot posted except for these and they are easy to pick out.
There was a video series put out by the Kodokan in the 80's that went through every throw, with many getting several versions and entries along with video of competition use. Grouped by similar techniques. Again, beautiful technique, english explanations, multiple examples, and competition application.

Example - Harai Goshi, Hane Goshi, Utsuri Goshi, Ushiro Goshi, Daki Age

Judoka - Tokio Hirano
Uploader - nicholai0hel (has every one posted)
Best Search - "Tokio Hirano - Kosen Judo" 9 vids, 4 of which are showing the throws back to back
My personal favorite Judoka, has the most dynamic Judo I have ever seen, can literally jump into a throw from 5 feet away and do it better than I may ever be able to. He has a video from the 1930's that is separated into the different families of techniques (Hand, Hip, Leg, Sacrifice) along with Kata and some traditional Japanese JuJutsu. The Kata are very much worth watching, but if you aren't already a Judoka you may not understand why it's actually such a good thing to practice and see done well. In any case, this is Judo so good that it alternately makes me laugh out loud and become literally angry because he does it with so little effort and so much result that it doesn't look like it should possibly work that well.

Example - Te Waza (hand techniques)

Judoka - ?
Uploader - ptnippon (uploader is the sensei who's real name I don't know)
Best Search ptnippon, not much else out there besides his vids.
There are only a few throws shown by this guy, but he has great technique and very clear explanations. Not a lot else to say.

Example - Tai Otoshi

I have a whole lot more categories I would like to include like "Incredible old-school judo", "very educational randori", "best search combinations" , "Best Seminars" and also best links outside of youtube, but let's see how y'all respond to these.

go for it Carrera before the thread gets boggled down by me bitchin' at Darkslide ;P

Taking up my first Judo class tonight after 3 1/2 years of BJJ. I know a few throws and already have a Judo kimono that was advertised as a Jiu-Jitsu gi (Gracie Torrence website) but what company makes the best Judo gear and where can I get some? I love Dragao kimonos and I would like one of their Judo kimonos but the shipping is killer.

For durability, Fuji and Mizuno judogis are like wearing armor, especially double weave.

What level BJJ belt are you, give or take? 3.5 solid years of BJJ would put you on higher ground when it comes to newaza, so maybe that might offset the gap that may or may not exist in the tachiwaza department.

From what I've been told, though, going from BJJ to judo means having to fight a VERY strong urge to just pull guard when things aren't going your way on the feet.

I have a Swain S-Class gi that I love for Randori and would be great for competition, but I just recently got a nice, soft single weave gi for everyday practice and I can't beleive how much more comfortable it is. The nice double-weave gi's are like wearing armor sometimes, I like that analogy. Mizuno Eurocomp or Shiai gi's are usually held in high regard for competition.

I have a Adidas competition blue gi and it is very comfortable to wear whether its practice or competition.

Anyone try the Jimmy Pedro Mizuno gi?

One of the greatest searches you can do on Youtube (and elsewhere) is for Stage Judo. This is an organization in Europe that does yearly seminars with super top-notch instructors and puts a lot of them out on the internet for free viewing. There's literally hours of this stuff out there, and they're so full of great concepts, clear drills, and just gorgeous Judo that you could easily spend months or years on what's already out there.

I am only going to post one from each set, but they are all from 8 to 16 parters. Yes, many are not in English, but that really shouldn't get in the way too much. I don't know why there are so many more great seminar vids in Europe than there is in America or other english speaking countries, but that's just the way it is as far as I know. Would love to be proven wrong and introduced to a great new set of English-speaking vids!

First one is in English though, from the great Swiss Judoka Sergei Aschwanden. These honestly seem like such simple things - Triangulation, Making space, Forward motion - but use these simple (looking) drills and you won't beleive how much easier your Seoi Nage's (and honestly, most forward throws) are, and how much more often you can get them. This method teaches you to make the shoulder throw with barely any effort.

BTW, if you have a hard time with stiff-arming opponents, this is for you.

Seoi drills for low effort, constant forward motion

Using constant forward motion to throw even with stiff arms & Ko Uchi Makikomi

Another great series is by 90's female European champion Carmen Solana. This one vid totally changed how I did my Kuzushi for O Uchi Gari, and now it's MUCH higher percentage. In fact, I can often get it without hardly any reap at all...

Nuno Delgado is in a ton of Portugese Stage videos, again more great stuff. Here's how to close the distance after a forward attack for something like Uchi Mata.

One of the Nuno Delgado Team-ups is with Oscar Penas, who here shows an incredibly good way to get "Russian 2 on 1" control, and the following videos have lots of great, high % applications from there. I can't stress how easy it is to get this very dominant position with this one method, which is shown first at 4:49 of the video.

I'm a broke ass, so I've kept my blue and white HSU double weaves.

The "Perfecting" series, from the same people who brought you the Stage ongoing series of awesomeness. These are excerpts from full-length DVDs where they take a single throw and break it down with several 6th+ Dan Judoka with scary good technique. Again, not in English, but it's shown so well that it's very easy to see what they are talking about and what you should be doing.

There are much more in-depth vids available for a few footsweeps, but vid 2 for Seoi Nage and Uchi Mata are a clinic in technical perfection, with just gorgeous technique shown over and over again in depth.

Site - Youtube
Search - JUDO Le Perfectionnement

Uchi Mata

Seoi Nage

Again, the footsweeps available are much more in-depth. There are four 9-10 minute vids on Ko Uchi Gari that are solid gold. I embedded chapter 3 because it's right in the middle of the action, but just look for related videos to find the others.

Site - Youtube
Search - EL PERFECCIONAMIENTO DEL KO UCHI GARI

Ko Uchi Gari - Chapter 3

There are also 30+ minute vids on both Okuri Ashi Harai and Harai Tsurikomi Ashi available, but not on Youtube. They are on a French site that I will be posting about soon when I put up some of the best vid sites outside of the common Youtube / Dailymotion / Vimeo.
