Official Women's Division Discussion #25

I see her more on the level of Alexis Davis than Jessica Eye, so top 5 at the least.

Also, just saw Talita Nogueira has a 15 year old daughter, they look like sisters.

Oooooooooooh. Lady Mir gonna have to break another Nog arm! :D

Julia looked better than I’ve ever seen her. Went for the finish the whole time and knocked her out. Surprised as fuck.

I had been hoping to see more of this Budd after she demolished Coenen but Blencowe II was another stinker. Great to see Budd opening up a bit and I was briefly worried for the first few minutes of this fight but Budd turned it up. Good to see.

I found the judging somewhat wonky in the Arteaga vs. Ducote fight earlier but feel Arteaga deserved to win that fight anyways. I would have thought Ducote would have understood the need to settle on Arteaga better, losing position really cost her in the second round of their fight.

I feel asleep early and ended up missing the Budd fight. It sounds like she dominated. Tell me the truth did Budd dominate because Budd seems to have improved and was just better than another great fighter or was the other girl not really good but has a good record because 145 is terrible.

Talita is green in MMA but her bjj accomplishments are legit, IBJJF world champion.

I like Gwenhwyfar Maia but I don't think she'll end up on top in the UFC. She's reasonably good most places but not really outstanding anywhere, except for her cardio which is great; if it wasn't for her cardio she'd have lost her title fight vs Porto and possibly her defence against Niedzwiedz as well. Unfortunately, I don't think she'll get the chance to fight a 5 rounder in the UFC. Carmouche isn't great anywhere either but she is bigger and stronger and could grind out and least two rounds. Her grappling approach matches up well against Chute Boxe 'Brazil-Thai' style on paper.

Maia is a little more skilled and her championship experience has also given her the nous of when and how to do enough to win rounds on points. I hope Maia wins, anyway. Preferably by single leg -> back tack -> nosebleed inducing RNC ;)

Really both? Talita didn't do anything at all except wave her arms around feinting, and Budd initiated and controlled the grappling exchanges. I don't think lack of skills has been a problem for Budd, she just can't seem to pull the trigger even when she's had an advantageous position.

Started off as a normal Julia Budd fight (they starred at each other for four minutes of the first round), but Budd dropped her with a knee in the second round, and by the third she was hurting Nog with leg kicks, which seemed to give Budd the confidence to wrap it up.

Full fight should be on Bellator.com/videos tomorrow or the next day.

Lol, If her name was really Gwenhwyfar I'd be the biggest fanboy ever and Siwan Jedrzejczyk could take a hike.

Well, I said Maia is overrated and Carmouche is underrated.

Maia doesn't have the striking power which can make opponent respects her strking skills.

Maia’s main thing is cardio and being decent all around. I’m still kind of salty about Liz getting the takedown when Jennifer stopped to fix her boob from popping out.

Alexis Davis basically shut down Carmouche's offence on the ground. Maia's groundgame is OKish, she better starts to work on her td defence.

It seems like things almost never workout for fighters who turn down opportunities. Maia was offered Valentina for a title eliminator and turned it down for more rest. Valentina is no joke but is also a better matchup for Maia than Liz probably is.

Happy to see Cat get a win. I like Marion, but Cat really needed this.

Unbelievable bad gameplan from Reneau.

Why run into clinch and pull guard in Round 1?She wasted all her cardio to fight a stronger wrestler on the ground. She gassed out before end of round 1.

Probably got overconfident after her last couple submission wins. I can sorta understand it since Zingano is prone to making poor decisions herself so Reneau figured she'd have some good opportunities for subs, unfortunately she forgot that Ronda was the only fighter to ever sub Cat.

I’m so happy to see Cat Zingano winning again!

Reneau definitely had a better chance on the feet. I hope Cat fixes her standup, especially those hands low during those leg kicks. Seems she is mechanically unsound. She used to stay in southpaw stance for her wrestling and in the last few fights she has been switching to orthodox from time to time. Hopefully this win is motivation for her to improve, now that she restructured her coaching staff.

Edit: She had that losing streak under Alliance MMA and perhaps their style of coaching wasn't compatible with her skill set. That's probably why she changed her coaching staff for this camp. A lot of times fighters will have their own coaching staff and spar good fighters at the bigger gyms, especially if they are coming from smaller gyms, or they will spar specialists in a discipline.

It's more about her limited skill set. Rousey, Pena & Vieira all are strong grapplers, she doesn't have other path to victory if she can't overwhelm her opponents in grappling exchange.
