Found this analysis of how Lomachenko uses his guard to not only protect but also to draw the opponent in to make an easy to defend attack ripe for the counter. It's short but makes an interesting couple of observations.

Funny they made the analogy of a shield in the video. That is exactly what I imagine in my mind seeing this. Like from the movie 300 or Troy, raising their shield and then thrusting forward with their spear.

I'm going to try this next time I spar.
