One Serial Killer per million residents in the U.S.

There seems to be a connection between highly religious people and serial killers.

Do you even statistics bro?

He lists about 37 serial killers he claims are religious, often with a tenuous connection to religion. A number of those claimed to have converted AFTER being imprisoned, which pretty much kiboshes religion as a factor in their killings. In those cases, it is either a sincere conversion (unlikely) or an attempt to sway opinion or gain some kind of sympathy or benefit (more likely).

On the other hand, he lists about 44 with no known religious information. So this is a total of 81 killers, just under 46% of which have a religious connection, often tenuous

Now, in 2017, 69% of Americans claim an affiliation with Christianity. 24% claim no affiliation. The other religious groups are basically rounding errors. Source: https://www.prri.org/research/american-religious-landscape-christian-religiously-unaffiliated/. This number used to be a lot higher; in the 1950s, over 90% of Americans claimed an affiliation with Christianity. Source: https://news.gallup.com/poll/187955/percentage-christians-drifting-down-high.aspx

Up until recent decades, virtually everyone in the USA claimed to be Christian, usually for cultural reasons. A majority still do. What this means, particularly in the case of older serial killers, is that you should expect a really high number of them, somewhere between 70% and 90%, to have some level of affiliation with Christianity. In actually, the little off-the-cuff study you cite shows the opposite; less serial killers than you would expect show a link with religion.

Mass shooters are the new serial killer. When has there been a legit serial killer in the past 20 years.

Robert Pickton

Convicted of killing 6 women, although he confessed to killing 49 from 1983-2002. Charges were laid for 30 more women, although the charges were stayed. He said he only got caught because he got sloppy.

like active?

quite a few. Grim Sleeper, Cleveland Strangler, Flint Serial Slasher, Israel Keyes, DC Area Snipers, Todd Kohlhepp, that Long Island Serial Killer, West Mesa Serial Killer, and then of course the VR/EAR/ONS was just caught even though they think he wasn't active since the mid 80's.

BTK was gearing up to kill again in 2005 when they caught him too.

They caught BTK? How did I forget that? Thank God. That guy was one of the worst.

He sent police a floppy disk for communication and it had some metadata on it. Funny how people who fancy themselves uebermenschen rarely are.

Manson died last year, FYI.

I just think it is weird that we give any possibility of parole to serial murders.
I remember seeing some news blurb in the early 90's that Texas had mandatory parole periods that were leading to the parole of a serial killer, no doubt to make way for more reefer addicts. Not sure if they rectified that situation, but I sure hope so.

EDIT here is an article on a Texas serial killer who was paroled in 1989

Here is an article on several serial killers who were paroled

Yeah finally dead. I remember that. In Canada all they have to do is label him a dangerous offender and the possibility of release or parole is eliminated, I believe.

Agreed that possibility makes 0 sense.

Oddly enough, you can't define a murderer as a dangerous offender under Canadian Law. Strange but true.

Fun fact, I live 30 seconds from the Picton farm.

whoever it is, they will continue visiting this thread. lurking. Monitoring. Moderating!

Lol I have a buddy in Langley. Fun fact: You guys might have eaten a dead hooker. They say he ground some of them up and mixed it with the pork, or he did himself, can’t remember.

Nahhh, couldn’t be.........

I'm sure we have more than our fair share here. MMA as a sport has plenty of creeps I'd bet a tidy sum we have at least 3 slashers. That one guy in the WR was into teenage girls is probably one of them.

I drive past the farm every day. The conveyer belts they used are still there and everything, super eerie. I love it though lol cool piece of history.

It's weird because some days there are cows there grazing (they were there today). I have no idea who owns it or the cows but its weird. Just grass, dirt mounds, conveyers and garbage.
