Open MMA competition in USA

Hello

I am interested in open (any one can compete) MMA competitions in USA preferably in Illinois. I was wondering if any one new of such competitions? I searched google but I couldn't find any Illinois and it is very hard to get any information on this subject.

I'm not aware of any in the Midwest.

My understanding is most the local shows are ran very similar to how some of the amateur karate tournaments are ran. Basically a gym or two puts it on and its made up of mainly people that train at those gyms and maybe few other outside gyms are invited to fill things out. They aren't out there actively looking for random people to fight like a tough man competition was back in the day.

Most states are the same- find a promotion and fill out a fighters application. Then you have to get registered with the state athletic commission and get a national mma id card. You’ll do medicals as required by the state then you’ll be good to go
