Opening odds favor Joanna Jedrzejczyk over Rose Namajunas

Damn. I was hoping to make some money off this one. Seems like most people realize Rose's win was a bit of a fluke. It was a legit win, but Joanna was still settling in. She got decked in the 1st round of the second Gadelha fight too, landed on her ass. Then she recovered and eventually found a rhythm so crisp she made Claudia look silly by the 4th and 5th rounds. With a few adjustments for Rose's style, as long as she can survive the 1st round jitters, I have no doubt she'll be Champion again

Thats ok by me, I will gladly get paid AGAIN. I love odds makers. Like Ngannou was supposed to murder Stipe too.

K I get it, Joanna was impressive, dominant, the former champion who was on a tear, but the girl she is about to fight again is the girl that beat that dominant impressive fighter at her own game. I dont see how Rose is not the favorite when Joanna wasnt even in their fight to begin with.

Its not like Joanna was finished by a lucky punch she was dropped twice and decided to say "no mas" and tapped. Namajunas had a dominant performance from start to finish, period. There is no evidence that suggests Joanna can win against Rose.

Joanna had a chin that started to become suspect in nearly all her fights against top fighters. Claudia dropped JJ in the first round with a jab. Karolina rocked her and had her in trouble for about 10 seconds against the cage. Andrade gave her a hulk smash to the forehead and created a huge hematoma larger than an orange, and Rose was the one who finally put her bed.

No doubt in my mind Joanna will prepare and do better this time If it stays standing ...but I am not convinced "The Boogeywoman" has the power to knockout Namajunas if she does connect. We know Rose has the power to finish Joanna at anytime. Not only that but she still has to worry about Rose's take down/submission game but she knows Rose can hang on the feet now as well so it keeps her guessing. If it goes to the ground. Rose is dangerous and Joanna is in trouble

Jedrzejczyk isnt known for her KO power. She has only 1 knockout in the UFC against Esparza who at the time had no striking pedigree. Joanna won most of her fights by out pointing her opponent to a decision. Only way she wins this is if she can out point Rose for 5 rounds and hope she doesnt get touched on the chin again or taken down.

Rose has many more ways she can win this fight than Joanna so her being the favorite to me is silly. I agree with the lovely Valentina Shevchenko that Rose Namajunas will retain.

Nothing to to discuss. You are correct sir.

I certainly hope Namajunas wins but Jedrzedczyk will not take her lightly and has something to prove. If Namajunas wins it won't be easy.
JJ didn't take her lightly. Rose is hittable as hell and has been hurt in her last 3 or 4 fights. It was a matter of time. JJ didn't come out and fight a bad fight, Rose just came in and took the fight to her and won.

She’s the favorite because one paper she’s still the better fighter, with the better resume, who was more consistent.

Let’s be honest, Rose would lose to Gadelha and Andrade, and already lost to Karolina.

You say she didn’t lucky, but it still looks like she got lucky. Joanna has never showed up and looked like that before in any fight before. I simply don’t believe it was because of anything Rose was doing. Joanna looked jerky and off within the first couple of seconds. Not the smooth and precise style were used to.

Maybe she peaked or her chin finally cracked. Maybe it was a bad weight cut. I don’t know. But I will say, regardless of the outcome of the second or third fight Joanna was the better fighter and will ultimately have a better career than Rose.

Rose is inconsistent with glaring holes in her game. If she retains against Joanna you might as well just hand the belt to Andrade.
<Waaah>

Joanna got ktfo.. end of story.. bad weight cut. blah blah blah. She got some well deserved crow for dinner..

I think a lot of people have believed Joanna's story about a terrible weight cut, despite her never having trouble with it before, and there being no evidence from her or anyone else that making get was ever a problem.

i like Rose, i rooted for Rose, ill root for Rose again. I really think she loses the rematch

Joanna has the better career
Better wins
Muay Thai champion

Sure she lost the last fight but I think you would have to be very bias to not think she is the better overall fighter

How can you get any more objective than this?
How is she the better fighter?

Rose has shown a much better ground game.

And early Joanna is all about the standup.

Who won the stand up in their fight?

If Rose beat Joanna standing, how is Joanna better?

...so when one gets knocked down and taps to strikes, it's because of cutting weight like 40 hours beforehand?

is tiramisu behind this dastardly scheme?

I wonder how many people thought Matt Serra would easily KO GSP again in the rematch. Let's give the former champ some credit here. Rose has proven herself to be a skilled fighter, but I don't think either fighter is going to easily run through the other in the rematch. Should be a war.

JJ will have the residual of her ko... its too soon she will crumble.

Joke of a rematch

No controversy should = no immediate rematch

If Rose wins, expect it to be a finish imo. She got Joanna with a good punch the first time around, not lucky she just beat the crap out of her BUT..
as we've seen in the past, more often than not a first round win over a dominant champion in the 1St round doesn't necessarily suggest success in a rematch.

Cain vs JDS GSP vs Serra are just a couple that come to mind. Rose has lost to alot of girls Joanna has dominated over 25 minutes, Joanna has made dominant fighters like Andrade look amateur.

This fight will prove if Rose really has Joanna's number and has improved.. or if she caught Joanna and Joanna can make the right adjustments this time around. One of the few intriguing fights in all of WMMA imo, I'm always interested to see how dominant champs look after losing.

It was a great podcast. Rose was great to listen to. Barry is a fun, likable dude but I thought some of his comments were a bit over the top. "We knew everything Joanna was going to do before she did it." It certainly did come across as though it was the case, given how easily Rose got her out of there but I thought that was kind of a pretentious statement.

I really liked the part where Rose discussed Joanna's trash talk. It's funny because for as angry and vindictive as some people on the thread seem to be about the way Joanna treated Rose in the build up, Rose did not seem to have a negative view of it at all based on the way she described things. She only looked down on it in the sense of her general philosophy of people being nice to one another and not needing to get into such antics. But in terms of personal offense or the like, there was nothing of the sort.

I liked her point about Joanna putting her fist in her face- paraphrased: I knew that the notion of getting physical in that context means one of two things- either she hates me that much that she is willing to hit me outside of the sanctioned match or she is trying to psych me out or get a reaction out of me. And I have no reason to think Joanna is a bad person so it's clearly the latter.

and LMAO at her comical mentioning of Joanna getting in her face before the fight and saying the cryptic and indecipherable "Did you buy the ticket? Do you believe him?" and it absolutely baffling her and Pat to the point that they were worried about what it meant.

Pat Barry is an idiot. He failed as a UFC fighter and now riding the coattails of Rose. Lets not forget he's a creep that swooped in on her when she was very young. Fuck Pat Barry.
