Persona 5

Hopped back into this a few days ago. Just about finished up the 5th(?) palace. The one about the burger joint dude. Fuck this palace. My God, what a chore. The majority is ONE floor, and a bunch of bullshit. Just running around, grinding the fuck out of it. I get what they were going for, in trying to figure out which guy had the specific ID, but it just didn't work, and you end up just fighting everything to find it. The enemy variety is very limited, and it's just boring. It's not "hard", but it's just hard enough, that it just drains you and gets irritating. Once you get past that first area, it opens up, and gets better and more creative, but it's a slog getting there. Just bland corridors and the same mini-boss fight, over and over again up until that point. No puzzles or anything, just grind until you get the items that open the doors.

Now, it did make for a good grinding area(went from level 36 to 42) but that's it's only positive. Maybe four unique personas to collect, but that's about it. Just the same shit over and over again. By the time you get to the more interesting parts of the palace, you're spent, and just want it to end.

Granted, I'm not playing it like it's designed, and haven't taken any breaks, but this is the first dungeon I almost tapped out on, due to it being a boring slog. I always wanted to see what was next, in the other ones. This one, I just wanted it to end.

I had so much fun with the combat in that game that all the dungeons were really fun. On top of that after so much dialogue it was always great to get another dungeon. I do remember this one being hard as hell but I cheated and looked at guides online to avoid the redundancy your talking about.

Just got to the 4th palace, i'm like 78hrs in.

Time to bitch about Palace #5 some more...

My God, I thought the pain was over after that first floor. Nope. They bookend that shit with one of the most unintuitive puzzles I've ever suffered through, since Myst(okay, that might be a bit over-dramatic). Hit this switch here. Opens door there. Now hit this switch here. That opens doors there. Now go through door. Hit that switch there. That switch closed doors to make progress. Go back. Hit switch there. Now other doors are closed. Undo. Go back. Skip switch. Go to room and hit other switch. Nope, not that one, the other one. Go through door. Hit switch. Nope. Start over...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRGGGGGGH!!!

So. Fucking. Dumb. No directions. No clues, other than vague symbols on the switches and doors, that you forget about, and can't keep track of, because you're traveling in between 900 different rooms. Oh', and just for shits and giggles, here is an enemy type that can end you in one turn, and force you back to the save room at the beginning of the puzzle.

That was...unpleasant. Thank Christ it's over with though. Calling card is sent. Time to send this shitty palace back to the Hell it spawned from.

Think I'm finally nearing the end of this monster. By "nearing the end", I mean I think I have about 10-15 hours left. I'm clocking at around 97 hours at the moment.

I'm just waiting for the deadline on the the Casino palace, and that's where the game started, so I figure it's coming to a conclusion pretty soon. It was good palace too, after that test of patience that was Palace #5. Cool environment, with a good assortment of goals, that didn't feel tedious.

Was curious though, who is the best girl to date? I'm dating the teach, and she has this cool perk that lets you do an activity after exploring Mementos and Palaces, that has come in handy, and sped some things up. I've turned down three others, but I'm always left wondering what they would've offered if I dumped Kawakami. I think the only one left that I can possibly date, is the Shogi girl.

The final bonuses are just based on getting to Social Link 10, you don't need to date them. If you choose the friends option, you don't actually lose any gameplay perks.

A lot of the social links have pretty powerful perks. The Shogi one is super powerful as it allows you to switch out party members in battle, which changes everything.

At any time? I already have a perk that allows me to do that, with the main guy. It costs a turn, though. It's never really been a big deal though.

Just curious, but what did y'all name the main guy? I went with "Youra Cuntishi" because I thought that would be a dickhead response to the bitch detective asking my name at the beginning. I've actually grown quite accustomed to it, and have totally forgotten that it was some lame joke I thought of at the beginning of the game.

"Cuntishi-San! What is your answer?"....LOL.

You can have anyone use their turn to switch out, rather than use the MC's.

Sounds good, I just don't know how much I'd value it at this point in the game. I would've loved that perk 50 hours in, but now it doesn't seem very necessary. I'm pretty much walking through the battles now. That would make it even more of a cakewalk.

Perhaps I shouldn't talk too much shit, though. JRPG's are notorious for amping up the difficulty to a ridiculous degree in the final stretch. I'll keep it in mind.

My friend bought me this game months ago and I just now started it.

Love it so far. Have the first 4 characters and am in the first dungeon.

One hundred and ten hours...level 65...final calling card is sent. It's coming to a close...

That final dungeon was alright. The maze puzzles got old near the end, but it was enjoyable overall. Didn't have too many problems, but I burned my three soma's completing it in one go. Got a little worried during the three form, sub-boss fight before I hit the treasure room, but in hindsight, I smashed it pretty easily. My main party is pretty much flawless. I only have to sub a member in here and there, when I run out of SP on someone who doesn't have the SP adhesive on, or when my party is completely out of bullets, and I need them to take down some enemies who are weak to them. And that's really only because I run the palaces in one go.

Been a hell of a ride, and only one thing is bugging me. I never got to make the most powerful personas that you get access to, when you max out a confidant. The level requirements for those guys are insane, and I don't know how you're supposed to make them outside of NG+. I never did level up the Twins that much though. Maybe they give you a skill to bypass the level requirements. Got stuck on one of their requests way back, and just never bothered after that. Ah' well, it doesn't seem to be all that important.

Usually its something like playing NG+ on easy then you get to lvl99 pretty easily

You're exactly right though, those most powerful personas are meant to be obtained through NG+. I did a second on hard mode and since you get to keep all your items and money, it wasn't too difficult to get them all. If you max out the twins you get a perk where you can buy personas that are higher level than you. Helps a lot because you have to buy smaller personas to fuse into the best ones. SO worth it once you get Satanael though. Your character becomes insanely strong and resistant to every element.

I did that second run to get all the remaining trophies, ended up with close to 300 hours total put into the game. Loved every minute of it.

I've been trying to beat the reaper for the past week and that sack of cheating shit...every time I'm close to finishing him off he just spams insta-kills and megidola.

<codychoke>

never heard of Persona 1-4. Rave reviews for this one though.

I accidentally ran into that dude the other day. Found a safe spot in mementos, and went to grab a snack without pausing the game. I come back and I'm in a battle with him. I totally forgot about the warning they give you near the beginning of the game, not to spend too much time in one area in Mementos.

I escaped the battle and ran like a bitch. LOL.

I should eventually give him a go.

Never played 1 or 2; 3 is really good, especially the p3p version, 4 is great, and the vita version is even better (p4g).

Dumbass :D

At least you managed to escape before he slaughtered you and your team.

I actually gave him another go last night and was finally able to finish him. Had to rely on my level 85 personas (raphael, uriel, and alice). Having futaba ranked up is of paramount importance, as she is able to switch out your party members in the middle of battle when they get knocked out, and she can also block an attack that will kill someone from the team once per battle.

I think P4 was the only one that got significant exposure in NA, before this one. I had always heard about them, but never really knew what kind of games they were. I remember seeing the PSP games in the store, way back, but the series never really stood out to me.

Here's a good video on the series, if you've got the time:

Okay, I think I'm at the end, for reals this time...

LOL, only posting because the game kind of pissed me off. I spent a good two hours finishing off the "Mementos" area, and then I had to go out in about in hour. Figured I'd make it to another save spot, before I had to head out. Talkity, talk, talk, talk...save? NOPE, you gotta go talk some more. No save for you. Had to leave the damn system on, while I ran errands. I'm tired of "save points". Save anywhere, for fuck's sake. It's time, JRPG's. Evolve already. There is literally no excuse for not being able to save in between some in game engine dialogue sequences. It ain't no CGI cut scene. Jesus!
