Plants know they are being eaten

Hmm interesting. If we were to develop a system that could tap into these plants' senses we may be able to learn to communicate with them. It may be a language based on scents/smells.

It'll happen eventually. But what will we eat after this happens ?! Gravel, sand, rubber...

Plants don't "know" anything. They don't have a central nervous system. They react to certain stimuli, just like everything else in this universe.

Vegans are cruel bastards.

logically the only thing to do is eat only animals since they cruelly eat the defenseless plants.

This is a great video that goes into detail about plant communication, which is one thing Joe mentions during that clip.

"A forest is much more than what you see," says ecologist Suzanne Simard. Her 30 years of research in Canadian forests have led to an astounding discovery — trees talk, often and over vast distances. Learn more about the harmonious yet complicated social lives of trees and prepare to see the natural world with new eyes.

The communication process of plants is pretty fascinating. "Mother" trees have been shown to send nutrients and information to their offspring (seedlings) through an underground mycorrhizal network. Some species even communicate with others.

The video also notes why it's important to protect hub trees and keep forests diverse, and not to clear cut and then plant all one species, as it's detrimental to the forest's ability to fend off infections and insects.

Only ethical solution is necrophagia. We eat our own dead.
