Props to Flair for getting a sub hold over as a finisher. I'm not an expert in pro wrestling history, but it probably paved the way for getting the Sharpshooter et al over.

But as a Heel how many big matches did he actually win with the FFLL

Brings to question: are there any protected Sub holds in today's game. Asuka is the the only one that comes to mind.

Hell even back in the day, heels didn't submit faces all that much. Faces could win.by sub up until the Attitude Era where certain heels had their spots protected and wouldn't tap.

You don't have the Jobber squash matches to get a sub over today for both the faces and the heels.

Virtually all finishers are buried. Subs, in particular though, have really taken a beating. They're basically high spots now.
