Routinely inconsistent

I’ve been sleeping like shit the last few nights. For the nerve in my arm, I have to sleep with my arm straight, and it’s pretty rough. Last night I got 4 hours of sleep, it took a lot to go to the gym today. Kind of sort of happy I did.

Squats and bench were great, but once I got to deadlifts, oh man. The last two reps of my working set, I was well on my way to snap city. Grinded it out anyways, so hopefully that was just due to being so damn tired, and it goes better next week.

Squat
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
205lbs x 3
235lbs x 5 x 5

320lbs x 5

Luckily yesterday was just recovery day, because my hip flexors were very tight. Besides that, everything else went well. Back extensions are still hard as fuck, but I think they’re going better. Did some dips, as the girlfriend had those left to do when I was done my scheduled workout, and to my surprise didn’t hurt my elbow/shoulder.

Squats
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
210lbs x 2 x 5

Press
70lbs x 5

Back extensions

Dips

Intensity day was great! Except during my top set of squats, an urge to use the bathroom came over me that made me lose tightness while I was in the the hole. Tweaked my back a little bit, but nothing some stretches/heat/ice can’t fix! Benching was good, and just did some cable rows afterwards.

Squat
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
225lbs x 3
245lbs x 2
265lbs x 5 (rep PR)

Bench
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5

Signed up at a new gym today with the Mrs. it’s small and privately owned, and it’s no where near as busy as the chain gym I was at. Lifting platform too! I saw some people doing Olympic lifts, and squatting to depth, it made me smile on the inside.

But, all in all a good workout. I took the recommended rest between sets, and that made a pretty big difference. Everything went up really well, and I can’t wait until intensity day!

Squats
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 3
225lbs x 3

Nice little PR you have there. 5 rep PRs feel damn good, bruh!

How close do you think you are from the 330lb squat goal? I know you want it in June, but you feel you're on the right path?

265x5 is getting close...

Thanks for the kind words! 5 rep PR’s have definitely grown on me.

I’m not too worried about hitting 330lbs as long as I keep eating a lot. When ever I slack off and don’t put in an effort, I definitely feel a difference under the bar. I’ll be devastated if I don’t get it though, haha

I've been doing high volume in a relatively heavy percentage for me over the past few months. I started a progression that will help me turn some of that work capacity and size into strength. L:eek:oking forward to getting above 3 wheelz again.

Decided to forgo a rest day. My buddy is coming down for the weekend, and I’ll probably be drunk/hungover, so I think I made a smart choice.

First time ever using a lifting platform. Feels good man. Squats went really well, and so did my press. Cleans will commence next week.

Squats
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
225lbs x 3

I’ve been pretty tired the last couple of days. Girlfriend convinced be to go tonight after work, and I gotta thank her for that! Squats went well, and so did my bench. Skipped the deads. I was just too tired and didn’t wanna hurt myself. My deadlifts aren’t what I’m really concentrating on, so I’ll reset next week.

This set of night shifts has been killer. Haven’t been able to sleep much during the day, but not from lack of trying.

Forced myself to go to the gym for intensity day before work. Super glad I did!

Bench went up really really well. From the start of the warm up set, to the end of the last one, took me maybe 7 minutes. Hardest part was unracking the weight lol.

Squats were great too. In January I hit 275lbs for a single, and was the happiest guy in the world. Today I hit it for 5. I can smell a 3 plate squat coming in the near the future. Super stoked!

Unfortunately ran out of time for power cleans, but I’m hoping to go in the morning after my shift tonight.

Bench
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
165lbs x 5
195lbs x 5

Squat
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
225lbs x 3
255lbs x 2
275lbs x 5 (Rep PR)

Did some power cleans this morning. Oh man my technique needs work. It was decent at this time last year, nowhere close now. Should come fast though. Just not explosive through the hips, and my rack is shit.

Cleans
65lbs x 3
95lbs x 3
115lbs x 3
135lbs x 3
155lbs x 1

Back when I lived alone, I would just stay on my night shift sleep schedule on my days off if I was going back on nights. With the girlfriend living here, she wants me to switch back so I can spend time with her. I’m dying over here boys.

Work out today did not feel good. Squats and press were going up, but I felt like passing out during/after every single set. I had to stop and take Advil at one point for a headache. Didn’t want to risk it with deadlifts. Back at the gym tomorrow though.

Squats
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
225lbs x 3
250lbs x 5 x 5

Press
45lbs x 5
110lbs x 5 x 5

Shift work can be a killer, I feel you. I did shifts for years and switched to permanent day shifts monday-friday almost 2 years ago. Within a couple of months of this and a relatively normal, regular sleep schedule, I feel so much better. Didn't realise how tired and generally sub par I felt all the time when doing shiftwork.

I like my job, and I just started about a year ago, but I kind of want to apply for a transfer to the head office and work a 9-5 job. I know my body would thank me.

Good recovery day. My grip strength is definitely limiting my deadlift though. I can comfortably hold 275lbs, and it shoots off the floor. With 325lbs today, it was slipping out of my hands after the 3rd pull. Got all 5 reps in though. Gonna have to start accessory work.

Squat
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 5
225lbs x 2 x 5

Bench
45lbs x 5

Everything felt good today. Last rep of my top set of squats was iffy, but stuck it out. My hips came up a little faster than my chest, but I corrected it and got it up. Press went really well too.

So far, I’m really liking the Texas method. My body feels a lot better, and I’m not dreading every workout.

Squat
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 3
225lbs x 2
250lbs x 1
280lbs x 5 (Rep/weight PR)

Press
45lbs x 5
95lbs x 5
125lbs x 5 (Rep PR)

Squats went really well today. Surprising, since I didn’t eat much before going to the gym (breakfast, about 5 hours before. More on this later). I did take 5 minutes between working sets, but I think I’ll be doing that more often than not.

I was looking forward to benching, but these 2 gym bros were using the only bench in the gym, from the time I got there, to the time I left. Maybe I’ll go back later today, maybe tomorrow. I don’t know.

Did some deadlifts. Didn’t do what the program asked for (5 reps top set), but I did go for my 1 rep max. I beat my old PR by 10lbs and the weight went up well. I added 10lbs more, and when I got the bar to just below knee height, everything started to go black. I dropped the bar and sat down right away, as I didn’t want to cause too much of scene being passed out in the corner of the gym.

I feel as if I had eaten before going, having more energy, I could have pulled a lot more. But now I know for next time, and I also know that my grip gives out when I go for reps, and not on singles, which is a confidence booster.

Squats
45lbs x 5
135lbs x 5
185lbs x 3
225lbs x 2
255lbs x 5 x 5

Deadlift
135lbs x 5
225lbs x 3
315lbs x 1
345lbs x 1
355lbs x 1 (Weight PR)
