Crime Sabotage? Terrorism? Needles are found inside strawberries sold across all 6 Australian states

Wtf who would do this and Why? Just messed up. If caught I hope they get lynched.
Seems organized? Would a biker gang or a triad like mafia do this?

This kinda thing happens about every half-decade. It's always some anti-social jackass who couldn't figure out what to do with his life and blames everyone else.

A bunch of anti-social jackasses apparrently.

Definitely seems like this would be happening in the grocery store. Increase security in the produce section?

How bizarre is it that some antisocial asswipe thinks "fuck people" and turns it into "fuck people who eat strawberries in particular."

The hoax element is disappointing too. People are so driven by the need to obtain recognition on social media that they would perpetuate both the concept and the fear. Their actions are probably more responsible for the copycats than the original perpetrator, as well as endangering the livelihood of the strawberry farmers by exaggerating the prevalence.

I hope whoever is going this gets an aggressive form of ass cancer that drips shit into their mouth every five minutes while keeping them alive and alert so they can feel and taste it

A bunch of antisocial asswipes apparently. Not just in strawberries now either. At least one incident has also involved bananas, apples and some particularly heinous bastard needled a mango.

Apparently one of the farms at the start of the issue is owned by a chap with links to organised crime. May be the Genesis of the issue - payback

It's a big news here, everyone's been talking about this for weeks non-stop.

It is 100% terrorism but there are already people using the "mental illness" card to get away with it and sheeps are falling for it.

Disgusting.

What makes it terrorism?

The problem is that terrorism has no definition.

If we find out a competitor in strawberries sabotaged these strawberries, is that still terrorism?

Terrorism is a trojan horse to create thought crimes. Actions are crimes. The motivation can be a multiplying factor, but it shouldn't be it's own crime.

Whoever did this is guilty of attempting mass murder. Why do we need to slap the meaningless word terrorism to it?

Unfathomable that people would copycat this sort of thing.
There's also been quite a few hoaxes, at least one of which will be prosecuted for making a false report.

15 years still seems a little low for attempted mass murders.

I say make it one count of attempted murder per contaminated strawberry.

Gonna be almost impossible to track down exactly where in the supply chain this has taken place though.

We've seen some really sick shit done to consumer products over the years, including the Kellogg worker who pissed on the cereal production line, but this here takes the cake.

What do you think this is? Sick pranks? Terrorism? Industrial sabotage?

Strawberry sabotage: Needles found in WA fruit sold at New Zealand supermarket
Sep 23, 2018

Needles have been found in a punnet of Western Australian-grown strawberries sold at a supermarket in New Zealand.

The Countdown supermarket, a subsidiary of Woolworths, has withdrawn the Choice brand of fruit from sale and is advising customers to cut up strawberries before eating them.

The find follows the spate of contaminated fruit in Australia, which has seen more than 100 cases of sewing needles hidden in fruit reported across all six states.

"Countdown has withdrawn a brand of Australian strawberries from sale as a precautionary measure, and is advising customers to cut up strawberries before consuming them," a statement read.

"Needles were found in a punnet of strawberries sourced from Western Australia, which was bought in a Countdown supermarket in Auckland."

The supermarket said it would withdraw any remaining strawberries from the brand while it investigates.

Draft laws passed by the Australian government last week could see food tamperers jailed for up to 15 years.

"That's how seriously I take this," Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

"This is not on. We will act to protect, and keep Australians safe.

"Mums and dads and kids have real concerns and fears.

"Some idiot has engaged in an act of sabotage.

"It's not a joke. It's not funny.

"You're putting the livelihoods of hard-working Australians at risk and you're scaring children.

"You're a coward and you're a grub.

"And if you do that sort of thing in this country we will come after you, and we will throw the book at you."

Follow up news reports said authorities accuse a kid of doing it. The kid says it was a prank.
Doesn't matter if the kid thought it was a prank, some pranks can be deadly. Kid should be jailed for a long as time.

That's what would separate the hoaxs and copy cats from something else though.
Mostly the former would happen at the supermarket, and while they haven't said, I have to assume there was some indication that the early cases in Queensland happened prior to that.

We don't have consecutive sentencing anywhere in Australia, and attempted murder is unlikely to get you more that 15 years here anyway (could only find one sentence of 16 years, for 2 counts of attempted murder and armed robbery, while on parole for manslaughter, with 6 prior convictions).

Kids don't go to jail here.

Fuck it. If they catch someone put them away for 15 years. Here in California we used to have a problem of eco cunts putting metal spikes in trees. When the trees got harvested and sent to the lumberyard they became terror tools. Low spikes could kill lumberjacks felling trees. Higher spikes could kill people in lumber mills.

a massive compulsory buy-back of certain types of needles is what is needed here
