Shamil Gaziev is definitive proof of the evolution of MMA

He drives home the point that HW outside of the UFC isn't some goldmine for talent. 10-0 record heading into contender series, a finish over a UFC vet and a win over another undefeated prospect in Kornilov (high level russian Kickboxer now 15-1) and he gets exposed by Rozenstruik of all people. Doesn't get caught by some bomb or anything, just picked apart.

The 12th ranked heavyweight on fight matrix for the 1st of April 2004, 20 years ago, was lyoto machida, who was 4-0 and had just weighed in at 214 against rich Franklin. Would you favour him over rozenstruik?

Either way, heavyweight sucks and the division has barely evolved. The evolution thing works for the other divisions where obese men aren’t common and can’t make it to the rankings

Dude has skills. But to give him Bigi Boy in a main event makes 0 sense.
