NOTE to NON-MEMBERS: Interested in joining the SHERDOG MOVIE CLUB? Shoot me a PM for more info!
Here's a quick list of all movies watched by the SMC. Or if you prefer, here's a more detailed examination.
I've decided to centre this week's theme around Great Actors who we've never seen before on the SMC (naturally... I ended up nominating a bunch of stuff from the 60's and 70's). As usual, I have a rule of not Nominating anything I've personally seen before.
Theatre of Blood (1973)
Director: Douglas Hickox
Stars: Vincent Price, Diana Rigg, Ian Hendry
Premise: A Shakespearean actor takes poetic revenge on the critics who denied him recognition.
Why europe1 picked it: Staring perhaps the greatest human being in history, Vincent Price! It is downright criminal that this club has existed for 132 weeks now without seeing a single one of his pictures. Plus, you also get the splendiferous Diana Trigg (GoT's Olenna Tyrell) as well! This is a film that ex-member @chickenluver used to rave about, and it is definitively -- most certainly -- NOT an attempt to try and lure him back into the club.
The Devil Rides Out (1968)
Director: Terence Fisher
Stars: Christopher Lee, Charles Gray, Nike Arrighi
Premise: Devil worshipers plan to convert two new victims.
Why europe1 picked it: May-perhaps be the only movie in existence where Christopher Lee plays a good guy (Howling 2 doesn't count). Who is evil enough to play a bad guy opposite Count Dracula himself, you ask? Well the Devil, of course! This pick has the added caveat of being a Hammer Horror flick, a studio whose excellence we've likewise ignored for a criminal amount of time. Though, honestly, considering its a movie about Satanism... I think we all just want to see if @MusterX votes for it or not.
One, Two, Three (1961)
Director: Billy Wilder
Stars: James Cagney, Horst Buchholz, Pamela Tiffin
Premise: In West Berlin during the Cold War, a Coca-Cola executive trying to sell soda to the Communists is given the task of taking care of his boss' socialite daughter.
Why europe1 picked it: I haven't had my James Cagney fix in years now. Withdrawal is killing me. I know next-to-nothing about this movie except that it's a highly regarded comedy, one of Cagney's last hurrahs. Like the previous picks, this nomination has a sociological inquiry regarding one of our members. Will @Bullitt68 love for actor James Cagney overweight his smouldering hatred for director Billy Wilder? Will he be driven mad trying to value the two? Could his insanity drive him to suicide!? Such excitement!
That Man From Rio (1964)
Director: Philippe de Broca
Stars: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Françoise Dorléac, Jean Servais
Premise: A young man comes to the rescue of his girlfriend abducted by thieves and brought to Rio. An extravagant adventure ensues.
Why europe1 picked it: Originally, I was going to go for The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) for the Steve McQueen-Faye Dunaway combo. Buuut watching the trailer... that movie just doesn't look so good. So instead, Jean-Paul Belmondo! This really is an out-of-the-way pick amongst out-of-the-way picks. I've thought Belmondo fantastic in virtually everything he's appeared in. Back in the twilight days of the SMC, another member said that this was his best performance. That bold claim has stuck with me since then, so here is its Nomination!
