Should MMA adopt a "ladder" for rankings?

Similar to team sports? For example a victory via decision is worth 3 pts, and you get an extra pt for KO/Sub, and only 1 pt each for a draw? Any fighters on equal pts then can be separated by another metric like "fight efficieny" (time spent in octagon/ number of victories).Any thoughts? Not sure if it would work, just thinking out loud.

Great idea, Napoleon.

Yes. And there can be different regional divisions, like East, West, North and South. There can be playoffs too. A 5 fight first round, a 5 fight second, and 7 for semi and quarter finals. Each regional champ will then fight 7 times against another (north vs south, east vs west) Then there could be a UFC World Series. They should do this for every weight class.

No, for the simple reason that in team sports teams actually compete frequently, whereas in MMA guys barely fight once a year.

Some sortve ELO system that accounts for how recent results are (so fighters don't stay super high ranked after their primes).

But then how would they screw over legitimate contenders for overhyped money fights?

The UFC does have a ladder system you goof. Matchmaking is not random. Guys who are similarly situated are supposed to be matched together.

I wouldn't mind a bladder system. Both fighters must not piss 8 hours prior to the fight and drink 1 litre of water upon entering the octagon. The fighters may not engage offensively nor defensively until they finish their water. Meaning that if fighter A finishes first, he can start pummeling his opponent until the opponent finishes their water, and fighter B cannot defend themselves. Fighters will be deducted 1 point per piss spot on their shorts. Sponsored by Peebok.
Book it Dana.

Yeah this would be good

Rankings suck... The top contender doesn't even get the title shot... Just Trash Talk on social media.
