I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge as to how to download "legally" either two of theses emulator. Their my favorite systems and there are a lot of game that I miss and would love to replay, like MegaMan X and StarFox 64. I know there are garbage emulators out there and i don't want any shady files on my laptop.

I appreciate it and if you rather PM me, go for it. Thanks! <3

I think that MAME is used for abandonware. I haven't researched it though.

what a useless response!

i have used zsnes in the past and had no issues at all with any game i have emulated, its very easy to set up and pretty simple to work out. You just browse for your ROMs and load them in, and away you go. You need to configure things like controllers but that is the same with every emulator

i have used an N64 one in the past but for the life of my cant remember the name of it, however, i found that emulation support was a bit didgy on some games(ha, i was thinking Diddy Kong Racing when i put the word 'didgy'...made me laugh).

Project 64, just did a quick google and this is the N64 emu i used to use.

grab those 2 and you are good to go

if you are also interested though, there is a cracking Wii emulator called Dolphin, it was a pain in the ass to set up, but once done was superb

let us know how you got on, you may need a decent PC for the N64 and Wii emulators, mine isnt great but has a dedicated 660ti and 8gig of RAM and they all run smooth

nobody came here wanting a fucking lecture on legality

i was merely pointing the guy to emulators that he could run his owned games on

and these are fucking endorsed, by me!

Zsnes and snes9x are the best SNES emulators. My brother in law downloaded a torrent with every single SNES game ever made.

Yeah coolrom is a good place for SNES/N64 roms. And I agree zsnes and project 64 were the two I used. Never had a problem.

Can also download some ones for your mobile phone. Believed I used. . . Super GNes lite or something like that a few years back. Snes9x has a mobile one too I believe.

Dude just get XBMC with the Rom Collection Browser and Libretro. It comes packed in with all the best emulators for all older 4th, 5th, 6th gen consoles.

Tutorial on how to set up XBMC.

Just remember don't go requesting for ISO's or ROM's as they are still illegal.

I apologize for leaving my basement and having sex with my wife.

snes9x with a wireless 360 controller is what I use.

So I'm going through the process of getting a pcs2x emulator setup right now and from what I gather everything I'm doing is 100% legal since I have to use a BIOS from a system I own and use game discs in my possession. Is there any way to do this type of thing with nintendo games as well? Years ago ROMs were everywhere and now it seems like the places I used to go have been wiped clean. Is there any way to legally make my own ROMs from the games that are physically in my possession? I'd really love to have all my n64 games on my PC.

I believe owning a system is not enough. If you don't actually buy the right hardware to dump the bios of your actual system that's still some kind of legal grey area, but it's not something I'd worry about.

As for nintendo emulators, I can't think of any that requires a bios.

As for dumping roms, you can get a retrode for dumping roms and save data off of SNES and Genesis/MegaDrive carts. It's small, easy to use, and it works great.

For N64 you can use a specific version of a gameshark pro, an old-ass printer cable, a PC with a parallel port and a bunch of different software. Haven't tried it, but the whole procedure looks like a giant pain in the ass, especially considering how nice the retrode 2 is for that kind of thing for 16 bit games.

For roms, coolrom is easily one of the best sites you can use to acquire roms of any game.

As for your wanted emulators, I've used zSNES and another n64 emulator that unfortunately forgot the name. I believe it was the very first emulator I google searched for in order to play Mario 64. PCS2X is a great emulator for PS Games too, only it's a pain to set up.

Thanks for all the replies. This response pretty much summed up my next 2 hours of research. I think I'm going to go the legal route and dump ROMs myself though I appreciate the recommendation above for a ROM site.
