Stipe is a worker: he's the HW equivalent of Bisping and Forrest Griffin

Lol. "Worker" to you means "slow and white". If Stipe was black, people would be gargling his nuts and calling him a true "A+ level athlete". I would think Loma Rigo should have proven how false all the racial stereotypes are. Bisping and Forest were both pillow fisted and slow - Stipe is super athletic, super powerful, a great wrestler and nothing like either except for the fact he is white.

He's fought a ton of mid level guys he can beat whilst losing to almost all the truly elite ones.
 
As far as the OP goes I wouldn't really say he's THAT similar to Forrest and Bisping, perhaps he shares a few traits but I don't think he's favoured by the promoter the way they were and has shown more consistent finishing ability against high level opponents.

The issue for me is more that he's fighting in a declining HW division and this has ment everyone he has faced has given him a clear weakness to target.
 
I guess it's been awhile since stipe beat the absolute fuck out of mark hunt. Maybe re watch that fight and you change your mind about him.

Bisping has quite a few but mostly against lower level comp, that's really where this comparison falls dowen though isn't it? Bisping and Forrest have bar the Rockhold upset mostly been workrate fighters, even when they've gotten finishes its tended to be via wearing opponents down. You could perhaps make the reverse claim from Stipe, whilst he wore down Hunt it was in a very one sided match and it was actually him who faded against JDS the first time and lost.

I look forward to Stipe far more than I ever did these two but honestly I do somewhat get the OP's meaning in that he doesn't really stand out as exceptional. More a well rounded guy with power who fights smart and targets opponents weaknesses, fighting in an era of HW with a lot of weaknesses to target.

The talk about him being the best striker ever at HW, I just can't see it, powerful yeah but not lighting quick and does clearly look hittable.

Like Stipe, Bisping, and Forrest Griffin are/were the same way, not lethal in the striking or ground area so they'd just wear their opponent down with their solid fundamental striking and great cardio and eventually get the TKO or submission. They all also have very good TD defense or had the ability to get up so that they weren't on the ground much.


With Stipe fighitng Francis Ngannou, Stipe's best chance is to avoid France's vicious 1 punch KO power and use his better striking to wear Francis down and open him up. Eventually Stipe could wear him down or catch him, stun him, and finish him by TKO......but Stipe tends to not have the best striking defense and has been dropped in a few of his fights, against France's he'll be finished.

How do I see Stipe vs. Ngannou going?.......I see Stipe doing well in the first, keeping Ngannou at bay and looking like he's going to win until Ngannou catches Stipe with a big one and drops him and then finishes with GnP punches for the KO/TKO.
