Strength in Interesting Places

Good work Jaunty!

Presumably referring to the high level of curls I'm doing these days? Thanks.

Thanks! My main lifts are still a way off but I definitely feel like things are broadly headed in the right direction. I probably haven't eaten enough to gain any mass on my legs, but it's all a lot more defined down there- hamstrings and glutes as well as quads. Probably the first time I have had even vaguely jakt legs.

quads on my quads bro

Makin' progress, Lord Jaunty!

Certainly in the Jaktness stakes. But I'd trade most of it for a respectable squat....

... who am I kidding? I regret nothing! Jaktness FTW!

As long as you have the teardrop quad, you don't need a good squat. You don't even need TO squat. You can just do leg extensions. I hear squats are bad for your knees anyways; I think I read it in a UFC magazine.

Conditioning and stuff

1. LISS- Slow treadmill jog, 60 minutes
2. Messing around with bands: 1x100 band rows, 5x10 tricep extensions, 5x10 front raises, 5x10 curls, 5x5 side raises (black band, all doubled over except side raises)
3. Other stuff: Girls' pushups up to 10 and down to 8

Pretty decent run given that my frequency is down because of travelling. As I have said before, it is nice to be able to run for 45 minutes and still feel almost completely fresh.

Off to London tomorrow, and there is a good chance I won't get to a gym at all until next Sunday. That's a bit annoying, but probably unavoidable in the circumstances.

Quick update from the road

Been in London a couple of days, as expected have not been able to exercise.

However, I did manage to get to a specialist runners' store for a gait analysis and shoe fitting. As expected, my feet are pretty flat and wearing shoes without arch support was causing my feet to roll inward quite a lot. The guy in the store let me try three different pairs with much more arch support and quite a bit more padding in the soles. The videos showed that all three fixed my gait pretty nicely (there was no ankle roll and my feet were tracking pretty well), so I picked the pair that was most comfortable. In fact, I got two pairs, so I can have one in Thailand and one in Afghanistan (I often get on the plane with just a laptop case so I can move through the airports quicker). At 90 pounds each that 180 pounds in total, about 290 dollars, that's not exactly cheap. But I've already had some issues- some pain above my ankles if I run twice on concrete in two days- and I am hopeful that this will address existing issues and forestall future issues.

Also, I am rich and single (and jakt) consultant/international man of mystery/spy and spending money on multiple expensive pairs shoes is the kind of thing that people like me are meant to do.

Hmm. I thought expensive international man of mystery shoes were supposed to have a matching or complementing expensive hat.

This log is lacking.

Log Announcement!

So, after thinking about it a while, I have decided that I will be reverting to the tried-and-trusted model of posting anything and everything here, and abiding with the 1,000 post limit. That means that SiIP will be locked in due course, and SiIP II will soon come into being.

Well, in fact, I already started SiIP II, but stopped and reverted back to SiIP I when the previous log lock was undone. But I will start a new one from scratch. In fact, I am going to do that now.

A small step for Jaunty, one giant leap for f13!

That means coming up with a new and clever subtitle for SiIP III, and carefully chosen videos or pictures to cap off and usher in the old and new logs respectively. Or is that just me?

Certainly, we should try to commemorate the passing of this log with some good pictures and videos before it is locked.

The new one, well, let it take its course: SiIP, in all its incarnations, is a living log that can't be planned.

Good work. Now I can finally ask this: You are some kind of Blackwater-esque contractor, yes? :D

Nah... I am a Technical Advisor. I work on stuff like management, finance, organizational development, project design. Very non-Blackwatery.

That's what a high-level contractor would say. I see what you did there.

Hey stranger, what part of the world are you in these days?

Hope all is well.
