Another thing to consider, if this would even be possible, would be to have rolling prefixes; like one or two prefixes that vary year to year.
For example: 2016-2020* we could have a Trump prefix.
For the last few months, or when RBG retires, we could have a SCOTUS prefix.

I'll have to check whether changing a prefix would retroactively change the tag on existing threads.

My best suggestion is make the prefix tags suffix tags. Looking at the Heavies, it's offputting that some threads have 'em and some don't. And the ones that do aren't of the same length. The first letter of every thread title should be on one file.

okay, a revision of my list (which is similar to everybody else's):

Breaking:
Government: would encompass elections, polls, policy, and party bickering.
$$$: economics, business, wall street, etc.
Law: SCOTUS, stand your ground, 2A, etc.
Vox populi: man on the street views on social issues

I'm stuck on foreign policy vs. international. I think they're both important, but different enough to warrant their own prefixes.
International - Brexit, So. Africa water issues, EU, China, etc.
FP - war and peace (this is almost always related to the US).

I think the CONFIRMED tag would be great in here too. The Russia/US Arms Treaty thread made me think of it. We're not confirmed to be pulling out of the treaty.

So, we could use it as a modifier for threads when a story is confirmed.

If they are done right, you could filter the forum down to a category you were more interested in. For example, you could see all the trans threads available and nothing else
