Texas school board votes to remove Clinton, Keller, Hobbes from history curriculum; adds Moses

Bushman had made the point that you can’t simultaneously accept leftish distortion in academia and reject rightward distortion of academia and remain credible.

He had juxtaposed the leftist practice of destroying or removing confederate monuments against the rightist practice of tailoring school curriculum in Texas. I ceded that analogy to be tortured, but say that it’s an unnecessary comparison, as American academia has a clear tendency to skew left, ideologically.

Thusly, there are inexhaustible opportunities for direct comparison.

What is it about Academia that makes it leftist, is it the strive for a fairer and more accurate representation of history and criticism of historically dominant cultures? An institution isn't leftist merely for accurately portraying history, rather than sweep things under the rug and whitewash. Now having said that, in some aspects Academia does support liberal sympathies , to the detriment of accurately portraying history, like in how they whitewash the nature of Islam.

Lol Moses hallucinated in a cave and talked to a bush after wandering in the desert without food and water. Not only that, but he didn't even make it to "the promised land" after the exodus from Egypt and was lost in the desert again for decades. Trusting hallucinations about the promised land and promoting a transhistorical special covenant with God, but lets conveniently forget the dude had no idea where he was going and he died after decades of failure. Another loss for Texas.

yeah but he parted the sea with his staff. s'gotta count for something. one of the greatest party tricks ever?..

That's a very Abrahamic-centric view. I seriously doubt most people in East Asia and South Asia think so. And the Native Americans wouldn't have cared either if Christianity wasn't forced on them. Heck I doubt very much that even Christians would claim Moses in the top 5, evangelical Christians sure, but not everyday Christians.

If one gives Moses credit for the things he's historically been credited for then I think he's a rock solid choice. The man wrote the Torah which established the basis for Christianity, Islam, and Judiasm. Moses is responsible for the 3 biggest religions in world history. The Torah also established the universal moral code, including the 10 commandments, most of which we still use today even in secular society. Moses also changed the course of history by freeing the slaves in Egypt and setting up the creation of Israel.

Who besides Jesus, Adam, Abraham, and Noah have had more significance in regards to the course of world history?

Prometheus of course, without him we would had never been created.

Of course, if we give him credit for the things he's historically been credited for.

Agreed. However, very few people, relatively speaking, credit Prometheus with the creation of human beings. Billions of people through out history have given Moses his credit. That makes his case a bit stronger.

In 100 years nobody will know who Hillary Clinton was. People are already forgetting Obama. In fact, most people who are popular at the moment will either be forgotten or just some irrelevant name kids have to remember to pass the test. The story of Moses will still be known.

History should never be removed or changed for the sake of appeasing people.
