The All-Purpose Motorsports Thread

Joey Logano isn't making any friends and it could come back to bite him in the championship race as he will be sharing the track with a lot of drivers that he pissed off during the season. Any one of them could take him out with a slight tap, even if he's lapping them. Truex was on his way to a win a week ago that would have put him into the final 4. He worked for many laps to pass Logano cleanly only to have Logano slam into him on the final lap to turn him so Logano won the race and secured his spot in the final 4.

He raced Almirola harder than Almirola felt was necessary as Logano was already locked in and Almirola still has to try to race his way in.

The talking heads were thinking that they might try to get even before the final race but that wouldn't make sense. Do it when it counts.

He's always been really unlikable. He and his front running cronies Busch, Keselowski and Harvick are all unlikable people.

Happy Harvick is unlikable? Keselowski has won the most popular driver in the Xfinity series 3 times.

Harvick has gotten boring in his old days. He wins a lot more but he doesn't have that edge to him that he used to have.

I'm surprised Keselowski won most popular in the Xfinity series. Maybe because of his last name? I don't know of anyone that likes his goofy looking ass.

Harvick loses his automatic entry into the final 4 as well as his crew chief for the season a lot of points after post race inspection. Something about the splitter not being in the exact condition that they are supplied in. NASCAR is not giving any further explanation. Why didn't they find this in pre- race inspection?

NASCAR penalized Harvick before the spring race in Phoenix for a broken rear window brace this year and he went on to win that race and rub it in with NASCAR.

Harvick took the pole in qualifying for the Phoenix race.

Verstappen and Vettel were fastest in the first practice in Brazil but Bottas and Hamilton topped the second practice. Verstappen missed much of the second practice session as the team worked on an oil leak in his car.

The biggest news is that nobody was robbed so far in Brazil.

Bizarre incident. Vettel is either losing it or an idiot

hm, what did he do?
I watched qual.
He's next to Hammy on the front row.

The officials called him in to weight his car in Q2. They are supposed to pull up to the scale, shut off the car and take it out of gear. Then the car is pushed onto the scales, weighed then pushed off. Vettel drove over the cone, onto the scales, shut of the car in gear, then drove off the scales, ruining them in the process. He got a 25,000 Euro fine.

Hamilton also had an incident where he got in another driver's way while both drivers were on a warm up lap.

ah, yea heard the Sky broadcasters referring obliquely to a Vettel weighing situation but they didn't elaborate.

the Hammy thing I saw. Sirotkin almost rear ended him. Hammy was idling mid-track when the other car closed.
there was a twitch by Hammy which produced a twitch from Sergey. A collision would have been calamitous.

I’m all for him being hard on his son but it basically seemed like he was ashamed of and don’t care about him until he started racing. That’s fucked up.

No penalty for Hamilton, nice consistency from maFIA as usual towards their golden boy. They realize he already won the championship and it's ok to give him one now no?

During the broadcast they didn't really know what was going on. They randomly weight cars as they come off the track during qualifying to make certain they meet the minimum weight requirements. Vettel was angry that he had been motioned to the scale. It might have been because he was short on time, but he was in no threat of not making it out of the second round of qualifying unless he was found to be under the weight limit. When he destroyed the scales, there was no way to tell.

Hamilton's incident with Sirotkin was one of cars getting ready for a run. Hamilton running slow trying to get a gap while Sirotkin was running faster trying to get heat in his tires. When Hamilton became aware Sirotkin was coming, he attempted to give Sirotkin the racing line but the speed differential was too great and Sirotkin had committed to the inside. It's one of those cases where neither driver knows what the other is thinking. I don't know if Mercedes gave Hamilton enough notice. The stewards have access to all of the radio traffic.
