I think a lot of it is the same as with stand up comedy. You have a sort of subconscious vault of the shit you've heard, and it can manifest in your own work.

standup comedy is even easier i think because some jokes just write themselves. the classic example is the Mencia bit about the wall to keep out Mexicans- who is going to build it? I think half the population had that thought when it first came up i the Bush era.
