The Cell

You ever notice that in his comedy movies Vince Vaughn’s characters always have the most random careers?

In Old School he owned some stereo and home theatre sales shop.

In the Break Up he operated one of those hop on-hop off tour buses... in Chicago?

In Wedding Crashes he was a divorce mediator.

In Couples Retreat he was a Guitar Hero salesman.

It’s really bizarre.

hahah. That's an excellent point.

Which reminds me of a part in Old School that I always found funny. When Mitch arrives at the Mitch Martin Freedom Festival and he sees the big stage setup and asks, "Oh so what you're gonna have like a student band perform." and Vaughan, almost annoyed, sarcastically replies, "Yeah. I've got a student alt rock band coming out here. Mitch, I own six Speaker Cities. I'm worth 1.8 million dollars that the government knows about..."

The visuals were cool. This video has a combo of Clams Casino’s music and clips from the movie:

What? He was a venture capitalist with an emerging maple syrup conglomerate.

{<huh}

Is that the cover story he gave Christopher Walken in the movie? I swear I remember the movie starting off wth him and Owen Wilson in the middle of a mediation with this divorcing couple. Haven’t seen it in close to ten years.

lol - Ya, I was teasing. That was their cover story for one of the weddings they crashed. :)

Also, on topic....I thought the cell was frickin' creepy but beautiful artwork and was surprised to see Private Pyle able to pull off such a role.

Been a while since I seen it but I remember it being good, creepy as fuck too.

Mainly enjoy it for Tarsem singhs incredible visuals.

J-Lo's bubble butt in panties is the only thing that stands out to me from that movie.

giphy.gif

That's my idea of incredible visuals all right.

. Personally I love the movie mainly for its visual and D'onofrio's personance. It was never loved by the public or critics which were accusing it of being a Silence of the Lambs rip off. There are a few critics that loved it like Ebert and Roper

At the time he had Swingers (cool flick btw) and one crappy Psycho remake. Also Jurassic Park.

Not exactly a nobody but a few years away from being a household name.
I think Swingers was looked at as a career launcher for Vaughn and Favraeu's career like what Good Will Hunting did for Matt and Ben. Seems to me that Favreau's biggest success is behind the camera than for acting

So when Old School completely changed the nature of his career trajectory, it was kind of funny to me. I mean you had Swingers and Made bookending those previous roles I mentioned, but he struck me as more of a dramatic actor than a comedic one until about '03.
The world was his oyster in 97 based solely on the strength of SWINGERS, which netted him a lot of gigs and somewhat of the mentality of Vin Diesel post-XXX and FF1. Then he stumbled between being himself and trying to eke out leading man status. After which he never could really jump away from the pack anymore, resigning his career to more living the Hollywood lifestyle than actually acting in films.

Agreed. She was good in that Selena movie and that's it.
You seen the series "Shades of Blue" with her and Ray Liotta? I didn't notice her being terrible in that either

damn I thought it was cancelled, looks like I've got 1-2 seasons to catch up on, maybe she does suck in those

Never even heard of that show but it actually sounds pretty good. I might check it out if I have time.

I remember visually it was stunning at the time, but not much substance.
