Yvel was a cheat in every promotion he fought for until his UFC and post UFC fights. And yes Volk was Russia’s Face early on but slapping a ref should require some sort of punishment regardless.

He is a cool dude, outside the ring. Just like Bob Schreiber. Assholes inside the ring who will do anything to win. Personally i think this kind of behavior is 'better' then guys like Dan Henderson hurting people after a KO or something. But cheating/foul play sucks, this is a sport

He got into a confrontation with the guy he's supposed to fight at the hotel and then follows the guy up to his room with a knife . Starts at 3 minute mark .I think he got the knife from the hotel kitchen . I grabbed a pic of when I think he grabbed it , he has it wrapped in his shirt . The fight is good though .

That is the worst display at failing to hold a guy down Ive ever seen!! He must have taken Yvel down 5 or 6 times in the first minute and Gilbert just stood up with ease.

It really was a different world back then , imagine a fighter or a fighters corner getting physical was a referee today , they would probably end up in at least court maybe jail .
As far as Gilbert goes I’ve never seen him as a good guy , I mean he did ok a helpless ref
I just think he’s the kind of guy with no self control that would hurt someone in the heat of the moment type of guy
